The champions were denied victory in the Bruges derby due to a late equaliser from Cercle Brugge forward Waldo Rubio. Newly promoted Saint Gilloise continued their impressive start to the season, climbing to the summit of the Jupiler Pro League Rankings with a convincing 3-0 away win against Beerschot VA thanks to two more goals from in-form striker Deniz Undav.
Kortrijk’s dream start to the season came to a halt as their early lead was cancelled out by last campaign’s leading goalscorer Paul Onuachu before Colombian defender Daniel Munoz secured Genk all three points in the dying minutes. Antwerp managed to get off the mark with a 5-2 win away to Standard Liege thanks to an unbelievable five goals from Swiss forward Michael Frey. Anderlecht were also able to put their stumbling start behind them as they comfortably beat 10-men Seraing 3-0.

Charleroi vs Antwerp
Charleroi have started the season well, but they may even be a little disappointed that they aren’t sitting top of the Jupiler Pro League rankings. They have the best defensive record in the league having only conceded once and will feel a little unlucky not to have come away with wins against St. Truiden and Leuven where a disallowed goal and missed chances left them with two points from the games rather than six.
Their defence will face their biggest test yet as they welcome last season’s regular season runners-up Antwerp. After a shaky start, the visitors finally got off the mark with a 5-2 demolition of Standard Liege where new signing Michael Frey continued his lively start to the season with five goals.
There certainly won’t be as many goals in this one and we think Charleroi’s sturdy defence will be equal to the in-form Frey.

Saint Gilloise vs Kortrijk
Perhaps the two biggest surprises of the season thus far face off this weekend with both at the top of the Jupiler Pro League rankings!
Kortrijk managed to keep two clean sheets in their opening fixtures which saw them sit at the summit of the Jupiler Pro League, but their winning streak came to an end against Genk in the previous round of games.
Saint Gilloise have coped well with a very tough set of opening fixtures and now see themselves sitting top of the table on goal difference. Deniz Undav is responsible for the majority of his side’s goal threat with the German striker netting four times in the opening three games. We think Undav will just give Saint Gilloise the edge in this closely matched tie.

Eupen vs Sint Truiden
Sint Truiden have had a mixed start to the season with a win, draw and loss on the record. Their solid 2-1 win over Gent in the opening fixture looked promising, but results have got progressively worse. They also struggled on the road last season, finishing the regular campaign with the second worst away record.
Eupen have gone from strength to strength with each game. Despite not seeing much of the ball against Club Brugge or Anderlecht, their defensive shape and spirited comebacks saw them come away from both games with a point, and they were unlucky not to get more against the Champions. They improved on these draws in their recent travels to KV Mechelen where two late goals saw them run away as 3-1 victors.
At home, this tough Eupen side should have enough to see off the visitors.

Seraing vs Oostende
We predicted that Seraing would struggle this season and unfortunately for them, that seems to be the case. They have scored the fewest goals in the league, only netting once in their 1-0 win against KV Mechelen, and they were comfortably beaten by both Kortrijk and then Anderlecht after going down to 10 men in the first half.
All three teams below them look to have enough quality in the squad to turn things around and it seems as if a massive effort will be needed if Seraing are to avoid being in a relegation battle.
The travelling side have turned things around since their opening game defeat to Charleroi. They have picked up maximum points since then with wins against Genk and Gent. They have an extremely promising and young side with the average age of their starting 11 against Gent just 23. Oostende are an exciting team and should blow by Seraing this weekend.

Genk vs Leuven
Genk have had a poor start to the season, only winning once from six games in all competitions. They lost the Super Cup to Pro League champions Club Brugge, were knocked out of Champions League qualification after losing both legs to Shakhtar, and have had a mediocre start to their league campaign, picking up four out of a possible nine points which sees them come into this in 10th in the Jupiler Pro League rankings.
They needed a last minute equaliser to pick up a point against Standard Liege and it was a stoppage time winner which gave them all three points against Kortrijk. Despite Theo Bongonda’s exceptional start to the season, Genk have been less than impressive.
Leuven have been consistently average so far this season, picking up three 1-1 draws with prolific Frenchman Thomas Henry scoring in each game. They are over-reliant on the forward and will struggle this season if they can’t find another outlet for goals.
Despite Genk’s weak start to the campaign, they have so much quality that surely they will start clicking soon.

Beerschot VA vs Standard Liege
Beerschot VA currently sit bottom of the Jupiler Pro League rankings after picking up only a single point in their opening three games. Their key man Raphael Holzhauser has yet to really get going and their failure to score in two out of three games is one of their man problems.
Standard Liege had two strong results to start their campaign, drawing 1-1 with a talented Genk side before beating Waregem 2-1 away from home. This run came to an emphatic end as Michael Frey and Antwerp put five past them to continue their run of conceding in every game.
Liege have certainly had the better start to the season and it is very difficult to see where the spark will come from for Beerschot VA.

Gent vs KV Mechelen
Gent’s poor start to the season was not anticipated by many as they topped the Conference League play-off group at the end of the last campaign, losing only once in six games. Despite losing top goalscorer Roman Yaremchuk to Benfica, Gent made the astute signing of Gianni Bruno who had a fantastic campaign for Waregem. Manager Hein Vanhaezebrouck will be bitterly disappointed with his sides opening three games in which they have only managed a point.
Since coming back from 2-0 down to beat Antwerp 3-2 in their opening fixture, KV Mechelen have struggled to replicate that performance. They were beaten on the road by a weak Seraing side before being brushed aside at home by an impressive Eupen outfit. There may not be a better time for them to play Gent, but we think the home side will kickstart their season here with a win.

Cercle Brugge vs Anderlecht
Cercle Brugge have had a solid start to the campaign. They aren’t scoring many but they’re not conceding many either. Yet to taste defeat, they managed to rescue a point late in the Bruges derby thanks to Spanish forward Waldo Rubio, who has proved his worth since signing from Valladolid. They will fancy their chances of maintaining their unbeaten record as they face a visit from Vincent Kompany’s Anderlecht.
After a lacklustre start, Anderlecht have upped the ante in recent fixtures, putting three past Albanian side Laci in Europa Conference League qualification and another three past Seraing, who were lucky to escape with a 3-0 score line. The pressure is on Kompany and his Anderlecht side, but Cercle Brugge are no pushovers.

Waregem vs Club Brugge
Waregem have had a mix of results to begin this campaign, but a decent strike partnership between Belgian forwards Zinho Gano and Jelle Vossen seems to be forming, with four goals between them in the opening three games of the season. They face a visit from the Champions who have yet to reach their best and Waregem will fancy their chances of pulling off an upset.
Club Brugge have only picked up one win thus far but have been dominant in the two draws against Eupen and Cercle Brugge. Noa Lang has had a productive start to the campaign, picking up two assists, including a dazzling last minute run to set up Charles de Ketelaere’s late equaliser against Eupen. The Champions haven’t yet gotten out of second gear, but we think they’ll have enough to turn over this Waregem side.
