Jupiler Pro League 2023/24: Matchday 8 Preview

Jupiler Pro League

Gent’s 1-1 draw away at Leuven on matchday 7 was enough to keep them atop the Jupiler Pro League rankings. It is promising to be yet another thrilling weekend of action, with the main event on matchday 8 seeing Club Brugge travel to Anderlecht, with the football betting odds incredibly even.

Genk vs St. Truiden

It’s been a strong start to the Jupiler Pro League campaign for Genk and they have successfully navigated tricky ties against Anderlecht and Union SG in their last two outings, claiming four points along the way. Their 2-0 away win at Union last weekend was particularly impressive, marking their fourth clean sheet in six league games. They have the best defensive record in the division thus far and will be looking to retain their momentum with a win against St. Truiden.

St Truiden’s start has been a mixed bag with three wins and two draws in their opening seven matches. However, the 2-0 win over Mechelen last weekend was their first win in four matches, and they face another tough test when they travel to the Cegeka Arena on Sunday. It’s not easy to see how they can beat this Genk team that seems to have tightened things up defensively this season.

Genk win to nil @ 2.80

Cercle Brugge vs Union Saint-Gilloise

Cercle Brugge find themselves up in fourth after winning four of their first seven Jupiler Pro League games. They were on a three-match winning streak ahead of matchday seven, which eventually crumbled when they lost 2-1 on the road against RWDM. That might just stall their momentum somewhat as they prepare to face Union Saint-Gilloise.

The visitors have only won half of their opening six matches but they have had the toughest start of any team in the league. Already they have faced Anderlecht, St. Liege, Antwerp and Genk, so to be just four points off the summit is an achievement. Despite losing 2-0 against Genk last weekend, we’re backing Union to get back to winning ways in Bruges. We have seen enough from their performances to believe they will be back challenging in the top four once more this campaign.

Union Saint-Gilloise win @ 2.50

Gent vs Eupen

The final game on matchday 8 sees league leaders Gent take on Eupen. The hosts have enjoyed an undefeated start to their Jupiler Pro League campaign and they will be hoping to kick on with another three points at home on Sunday evening. They have enough quality in their attack to hurt any team in Belgium, and with Eupen not exactly the strongest defensively, Gift Orban and Hugo Cuypers will be licking their lips at the prospect of this game.

Eupen have conceded 13 goals in 7 matches, the joint fourth worst defensive record in the league, and they shipped three goals in their last outing against Liege. There will be plenty of surprised Gent fans should Eupen manage to nick any points on the road.

Gent to win @ 1.29
