Slovenia vs Norway

The first pick of our UEFA Nations League Fixtures preview is Norway to win in Ljubljana. Slovenia are bottom of their group having failed to win in their first four matches, and they are without a win in any competition this year. In contrast, Norway have won five of their last six games and they have lost just once in 13 – a solid run of form stretching back over 12 months.

Led by Erling Haaland, the visitors will be favourites to win on the road. The Man City striker is in sublime form – he has scored 11 in his last six games – and he has also netted five out of Norway’s six goals in this competition. Slovenia have the worst defensive record in the group and are averaging two goals conceded per game. We don’t rate their chances of containing the 22-year-old goalscorer.

Norway win – 1.90

Czech Republic vs Portugal

European Championships win aside, you can’t help but think Portugal have largely underwhelmed in the last decade. However, they are the second pick of our UEFA Nations League Fixtures preview, and could be a dark horse heading into the World Cup. Cristiano Ronaldo is the obvious threat, but the squad that has developed around him is among the best in the world.

Portugal are trailing Spain by a single point, but they boast the best defensive record and have scored the most goals in the group. They will be strong favourites away against a Czech Republic side that have won just once in their last six. The hosts will put up a fight, but they shouldn’t be able to cope with a star-studded Portugal team.

Portugal win – 1.72

Serbia vs Sweden

This looks a tight game on paper, but Serbia have been far more assured in recent times, hence their inclusion in our UEFA Nations League Fixtures preview accumulator. The home side have lost only three times in 22 games and have won four of their last five at home, scoring 15 goals across those victories.

In contrast, Sweden travel poorly. They have lost an incredible nine of their last 12 away games, a shocking record for a squad as talented as theirs. Both nations have players that can produce moments of magic, but Serbia are rigid in their defensive approach, which should serve them well in this fixture.

Serbia win – 1.89

Scotland vs Republic of Ireland

There is never much separating these two sides, with a draw also looking a solid bet. However, we have opted for under 2.5 goals in our UEFA Nations League Fixtures preview. Ireland have failed to score in half of their games thus far and the only time they netted more than once was in the reverse of this fixture.

That 3-0 win in this fixture earlier this year was an anomaly – the five meetings prior to that ended with under 2.5 goals, three with under 1.5 goals. It is always a cagey affair when these two lock horns. At Hampden Park, Scotland won’t give away much, but we don’t think they’re particularly promising going forward either. A 0-0, 1-1 or 1-0 either way wouldn’t be at all surprising.

Under 2.5 goals – 1.52
