Denver Nuggets vs LA Lakers

The reigning champions open up their campaign against the Lakers. Yes, the visiting team undoubtedly have star power in LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but too often of late the pair have failed to set the league alight, whether that’s due to injury or form. It looks like they will both feature in the season opener, but it’s one hell of a test to take on the champions in their backyard.

The Nuggets won a ring for a reason: consistency. They didn’t have too many off-nights last campaign and we don’t expect them to start sluggishly this year either. They have looked good in pre-season, and let’s face it, when you have Nikola Jokic in your team, you’re always going to be favourites.

Denver Nuggets to win – 1.45

Golden State Warriors vs Phoenix Suns

The Warriors’ roster was already stacked, but they have now added another all-star in Chris Paul to the mix. Not to mention they have re-signed Draymond Green. If they can keep Paul, Klay Thompson and Steph Curry fit for the bulk of their games, we so no reason why Golden State can’t be competing at the top of the Western Conference.

Phoenix have finished 2nd, 1st, and 4th in the Western Conference in the last three seasons. But since losing to the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2021 NBA Finals, they have twice been knocked out of the Conference Semi-Finals. They will be slight favourites heading into their opener but they could well struggle to keep up with Golden State’s scoring power.

Golden State Warriors to win – 1.92

Milwaukee Bucks vs Philadelphia 76ers

This could well be another very successful year for Milwaukee. Adding Damian Lillard to the roster looks almost like a cheat code. Paired with Giannis, the pair could be devastating in the Eastern Conference. They will still be reeling after losing out in the play-off first round against Miami last season, and they’ll be looking to get a statement win on the board early.

The 76ers also performed well last season, finishing 3rd in the Eastern Conference. However, they never seem to pull it together on the biggest stage. They have now lost in the Conference Semi-Finals in five of the last six seasons, including on three successive occasions. Something needs to change in Philly.

Milwaukee Bucks to win – 1.43

San Antonio Spurs vs Dallas Mavericks

The future looks bright for San Antonio with number one draft pick Victor Wembanyama looking good in pre-season. However, this season will be a step too soon for the Spurs. There simply isn’t enough in their roster that makes us think they can realistically challenge in the play-offs.

The same can’t be said for the Mavs. It’s Luka Doncic’s time to shine, and he will be helped by the signing of 3-time All-NBA star Kyrie Irving. It’s time for Dallas to push on and go in search of that elusive ring.

Dallas Mavericks to win – 1.41
