Formula 1 2023: Brazilian Grand Prix Preview
It’s done and dusted. Max Verstappen is the world champion once again and is breaking all the records this season. There has been an inevitability about Red Bull this season, the likes of which we have rarely seen before. Red Bull have won 18 of the 19 races this season, with Verstappen winning 16 and his teammate Sergio Perez winning two.
However, Verstappen only has one victory to his name in Brazil, a win in 2019. Since then, Mercedes have won back-to-back Sao Paulo Grand Prixs, first Lewis Hamilton in 2021, and most recently, George Russell in 2022. Could there be an opportunity for someone else to top the podium with Verstappen half in celebration mode?
If anyone can do it, it might well be Hamilton. The Englishman has won three times in Brazil, a record bettered only by Carlos Reutemann (4), Michael Schumacher (4), and Alian Prost (6). After a couple of races to forget in Qatar and the United States, Hamilton was back on the podium in Mexico, finishing in second place.
Another driver who will fancy his chances in South America is Lando Norris. He was on the podium in Qatar and the US, before fighting back from a 19th-place start to come fifth in Mexico. He has finished in the top three in six of his last 10 races, but is yet to win this season and is still awaiting the first victory of his career.
