Euro 2024: Austria vs Belgium Preview

It’s a top-of-the-table clash at the Ernst Happel Stadion. The two nations are tied on 13 points at the summit of Group F, with Belgium only leading the way on goal difference. Both sides have won four of their opening five, with the only draw coming in the reverse fixture. It finished 1-1 in Brussels with Orel Mangala’s first-half own goal cancelled out by Romelu Lukaku in the 62nd minute.

This will be the toughest test to date for Tedesco but his side have typically performed well away from home. Belgium have won four consecutive away games under the new coach, including an impressive 3-2 win in Germany. The other three outings have seen them beat Sweden, Estonia, and Azerbaijan without conceding a goal.

However, Austria have been rock-solid on home soil. They are unbeaten in five home matches with four victories, including 2-0 wins against Italy and Sweden. After coming away from Belgium with a point, they will be hoping to claim all three in Vienna to put themselves in pole position to top the group.

Austria are riddle with injuries ahead of the fixture. Michael Gregoritsch, Marcel Sabitzer, and Marko Arnautovic have all played big parts in the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign thus far and all three are unlikely to play due to injuries.

In contrast, Belgium will be close to full strength, with the boost of an in-form Romelu Lukaku sure to only enhance their chances of winning all three points.

Latest Euro 2024 Qualifying Odds: Austria vs Belgium

Belgium will be slight favourites away from home at 2.50 thanks to their renewed progression under Tedesco. Austria will be minor 2.86 underdogs on home soil, with a draw priced at 3.13. Goals will be expected in this one, with both teams to score (1.75) attracting more attention than either side to keep a clean sheet (2.00).

Unsurprisingly, Lukaku leads the odds to open the scoring at 6.00, followed by his compatriot Michy Batshuayi (7.00). Sasa Kalajdzic (7.50) is Austria’s most likely first goalscorer.

Austria vs Belgium Betting Tips

Romelu Lukaku to score first – 6.00

Lukaku has rediscovered his best form since linking back up with Jose Mourinho at Roma. He has netted eight times already for the Italian side, not to mention he is the Euro 2024 qualifying top scorer too, with eight goals in five matches.

Belgium to win to nil – 4.05

We like the look of Belgium to open a gap at the top of the group. They have tightened up defensively, and with Austria’s long injury list, a Belgium win to nil looks good value.
