The World Cup 2022 groups are set and the action is soon to be underway in Qatar! We’ve previewed the upcoming tournament, paying particular attention to one of the competition’s biggest threats, Belgium.

World Cup 2022: Belgium Tournament Preview

The World Cup 2022 groups are drawn, with Belgium occupying a spot in Group F accompanied by Canada, Morocco and Croatia. The Red Devils are huge favourites (1.53) to top the group, but Morocco are one of Africa’s most successful footballing countries, Canada are an emerging nation and Croatia reached the 2018 World Cup final.

Belgium’s performance in the World Cup 2022 groups and beyond could be largely affected by the fitness of star striker Romelu Lukaku. The Inter Milan loanee is the nation’s all-time top scorer with 68 goals and will be crucial if Roberto Martinez’s side are to progress deep in the competition. Provided he is fully fit, odds of 17.00 for Lukaku to claim the Golden Boot are extremely tempting.

There are many insinuating it is now or never for Belgium. Their golden age of talent is reaching the back end of its prime, with this potentially one of the greatest chances for them to win a World Cup. Lukaku is 29, Thibaut Courtois is 30, Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard are 31 – it may be too late by the time World Cup 2026 rolls around.

Belgium are unlucky to have fallen against the very best in recent years. At the 2018 World Cup they were bested in the semi-finals by eventual winners France, and they also lost against Italy in Gli Azzurri’s run to becoming crowned European champions in 2021.

So, whilst it may appear a tall order, the Belgian’s can never be counted out. Their squad is among the most talented that will be on show in Qatar, with standout talent littered across the pitch. If they can gain some early momentum in the World Cup 2022 groups, there is no reason they can’t go all the way.

World Cup 2022: Belgium Betting Tips

Belgium group points: 7 – 3.50

This is a nice alternative to betting on Belgium to win their group. You would expect them to go undefeated in the World Cup 2022 groups, most likely dispatching of Canada and Morocco fairly comfortably. However, Croatia could prove a tough test and a draw would probably be enough for the Red Devils to top the group.

Most assists: Kevin De Bruyne – 12.00

De Bruyne is arguably the best midfielder in the world right now. He is performing at an incredibly high level for Manchester City and is on track to break the record for Premier League assists in a season. Everything will go through him for Belgium, and the further they go, the more likely he is to finish the tournament with the most assists.

Belgium stage of elimination: semi-finals – 7.00

Belgium have every chance of making it to the final four, but there is some serious competition in Qatar this year. We’re not sure defensively they will be sound enough to keep out some of the world’s more dynamic attacks.

World Cup 2022: Groups to Watch

Aside from Belgium’s group, Group E looks the most interesting. Featuring Spain, Germany, Costa Rica and Japan, you get the feeling one of the big boys could be dumped out earlier than expected.

Group B could also throw up some surprises. Euro 2020 finalists England will be favourites to top the group, but they will have to beat fierce rivals Wales and a much improved USA to do so.
