Sweden vs Belgium Football Predictions
Sweden will be strong favourites heading into the third quarter-final after a solid showing in the group stages. Following a hard-fought point against the Netherlands, they survived a scare against Switzerland and hammered Portugal to top the group. There will be many expecting them to cruise past Belgium, but they shouldn’t take the Red Devils too lightly.
Belgium may have only scraped through to the knockouts, but they shown some positive signs. They fought hard in a 2-1 defeat to a very good French side, and on another day, they could have come away with a point. So whilst there aren’t many giving Belgium a chance in their football predictions, they have nothing to lose going into the quarter-final and will play with complete freedom.
The only two previous meetings between these nations have gone the way of Sweden, but it’s been over a decade since they last went head-to-head. It’s hard to look past the Swedish given they have not lost a match in 90 minutes for 32 games. In contrast, Belgium have lost 10 in that same time. But in tournament football, anything can happen.
Ives Serneels’ side have already made it further than ever before in a major tournament, but they will be relying on two women if they are going to progress to their first semi-final. Tine De Caigny scored the goal that booked Belgium a place in the knockout stages, and she’ll be crucial in Friday night’s tie. A constant goal threat from midfield, she will never shy away from getting in the box. Number nine Tessa Wullaert will be equally pivotal. Although she has not found the net at Euro 2022, her composure in front of goal has never been in question.
For Sweden it’s all about the creativity and attacking flair of Barcelona winger Fridolina Rolfo and Arsenal striker Stina Blackstenius. If these two are up for it, our football prediction is that Belgium won’t be able to live with them.
