Manchester City host Tottenham on Saturday knowing they simply cannot afford to slip to a fifth straight defeat in all competitions.
Although it is too early to say City are in the midst of a crisis, Pep Guardiola is dealing with the worst run of his managerial career.
Guardiola, 53, has pointed to injury problems as the cause but the pressure is beginning to build on the Premier League champions.
Visitors Tottenham have lost back-to-back games themselves and question marks remain as Ange Postecoglou battles to turn his side into genuine contenders.
Spurs are languishing in mid-table and desperately need a victory to quell growing unrest among their fans.
Yet City will no doubt fancy their chances of getting back on track against a team that has already been beaten five times in the league this term.

Manchester City vs Tottenham Preview
Ironically, City’s losing streak began with a 2-1 defeat at Tottenham in the Carabao Cup last month.
They then came unstuck at Bournemouth in the league before suffering a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League.
Just when their title defence appeared to be getting back on track at Brighton thanks to an Erling Haaland strike, they were sunk by two late goals at the Amex.
Speaking after the 2-1 defeat to the Seagulls, Guardiola said: “We have to change it and get back to winning.
“We are in the position that we are in and hopefully when we get the players back I don’t have any doubts that we will be back.
“This is my challenge — our challenge — and I’d like to face it. I will not step back at all.
“More than ever I want to do it. So we will try again. We must clear our heads and the players come back fit — this is the target.”
Tottenham’s recent form has been equally disappointing, with three defeats in their last five league outings.
After recording an impressive 4-1 win over Aston Villa, Postecoglou’s men were beaten 3-2 by Galatasaray in the Europa League before slipping to a 2-1 home defeat to Ipswich in the league.
Spurs will also have to do without midfielder Rodrigo Bentacur on Saturday evening.
Bentacur, 27, has been handed a seven-match domestic ban for an alleged racial remark about team-mate Heung-Ming Son.

Despite their poor run, the odds suggest City are strong favourites to pick up three points. A home win is priced 1.51 while a draw offers better value at 4.50. If you fancy Spurs to add to Guardiola’s misery, 5.40 may be too good to overlook.
