Charlotte Hornets vs New York Knicks
Although the Knicks have seen their form drop off slightly, they are facing a Hornets side that have lost 5 in a row going into the back-end of the week. New York have one of the most in-form players in his basketball position, with Julius Randle dominating at power forward. He has registered a 30 point double-double in each of their last two wins and is picking up plenty of boards at both ends of the court. Along with Barrett and Fournier, the Knicks should be too good for the Hornets.
Prediction: New York Knicks
New Orleans Pelicans vs Brooklyn Nets
The Pelicans have had a poor start, losing 10 from their opening 11 games and failing to win on home soil thus far. They have struggled without big scorers at guard, two of the most important basketball positions, and have not reached 100 points in any of their last 3 games. In contrast, Brooklyn have won 5 of their last 6, with James Harden contributing from deep and Kevin Durant imposing his equally physical and technical game. The Nets look set to continue their fine form.
Prediction: Brooklyn Nets
San Antonio Spurs vs Dallas Mavericks
The Spurs are another of the teams which have struggled to score from beyond the 3-point arc. Dallas however have had no such problem and Luka Doncic has solidified his status as one of the best shooting guards in the NBA. The Slovenian has led the scoring in 4 out of the last 5 games, supported by 7ft 3 Latvian forward Kristaps Porzingis who dominates the paint from his basketball position. The Mavs have too much firepower for San Antonio to keep up with.
Prediction: Dallas Mavericks
Golden State Warriors vs Chicago Bulls
This tie features two of the best performers this season in what promises to be an exciting game. DeMar DeRozan and Zach Lavine have led the scoring for the Bulls, but will need to be at the top of their game to stop the 9-1 Warriors. Steph Curry may be the most consistent shooter the league has ever seen and the playmaker put up a historic 50 point double-double in Golden State’s 14 point win over the Hawks. At times, Curry can be unstoppable, and the Warriors are establishing themselves as early favourites for a ring.
Prediction: Golden State Warriors
Indiana Pacers vs Philadelphia 76ers
Philadelphia have excelled despite the absence of Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid has enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign. The Cameroonian centre made the 2021 All-NBA 2nd Team in his basketball position, but will miss the next few games due to him contracting COVID. This will no doubt have a negative impact on the 76ers, who lost their first game without Embiid, but Andre Drummond is a capable replacement and the travelling team have plenty who can contribute points.
Prediction: Philadelphia 76ers
LA Lakers vs San Antonio Spurs
LA have lost 2 of their last 3 without Lebron, but they should still have enough to see off this Spurs side. AD has been consistently untouchable in the paint, as we’ve come to expect from the power forward, and Russell Westbrook has stepped up in the role as a creator. The Lakers have one of the most stacked rosters in the NBA and boast genuine all-stars across every basketball position. We back them to do the business at the Staples Centre.
Prediction: LA Lakers
