After winning the title in 2023-24, the new season has not got off to the best of starts for Club Brugge.
A loss to Union Saint-Gilloise in the Belgian Super Cup final was followed by a 1-1 home draw with Mechelen in their Pro League opener.
Big summer signing Gustaf Nilsson was unable to influence proceedings on his league debut for the champions and he will be desperate to put things right this weekend.
Club Brugge can at least take comfort in the fact they were dominant against Mechelen, recording 27 shots on goal and having 59% of the ball.
But they need to be more clinical against a Standard Liege side who will be desperate for an improved performance overall in 2024-25.
They finished bottom of the Conference League play-off group last season and won only eight of their 40 matches.

Standard Liege drew 0-0 at Genk in their opener, although while the scoreline is not too bad, the underlying stats do not make for pretty reading.
They had just 24% possession and one shot on target, numbers which will have Club Brugge’s array of talented stars licking their lips at the thought of victory on the road.
