Standard Liege vs Oostende
Oostende picked up their third win in a row against Seraing with German youngster Nick Batzner scoring one and creating two more to equal his goals and assists tally for the whole of last season. They go into this game as the underdogs so the forward partnership of Thierry Ambrose and Makhtar Gueye will be crucial in this tie as the pair already have five goals between them.
Standard Liege have performed better on the road this season and will need to pick up their home form if they are to challenge for the top four place. They go into this one as favourites but we wouldn’t be surprised to see Oostende come away with a result.
Draw @ 3.45
Seraing vs Cercle Brugge
This is a battle between two clubs who could very well be fighting for survival come the end of the season. Both have managed just one win from four games and are at the bottom of the Jupiler Pro League rankings.
The battle in the middle of the park could be where this game is won and lost. Cercle Brugge’s young pairing of Portuguese talent Leonardo Lopes and home-grown Charles Vanhoutte held their own in the Bruges derby and the recent tie against Anderlecht. We think Brugge will have just enough to take all three points on the road.
Cercle Brugge win @ 2.45
Leuven vs Eupen
These two sides have had contrasting starts to the season. Eupen came away from a tough start unscathed, with draws against Club Brugge and Anderlecht before beating KV Mechelen and Sint Truiden. Despite failing to keep a clean sheet thus far, they have had goals scored from all over the pitch.
Leuven on the other hand have yet to pick up a win and are heavily reliant on Thomas Henry who has scored all three of their goals. Henry can’t do it on his own, but he will fancy his chances against a Eupen side conceding regularly. We think Leuven will be held to their fourth draw of the campaign.
Draw @ 3.85
Sint Truiden vs Kortrijk
Both sides have stumbled after positive starts to the season and have lost their last two games. Sint Truiden will feel hard done by in their last outing against Eupen where they had plenty of attempts but failed to convert, whereas Kortrijk were subject to an onslaught of attacking football from league leaders Saint GIlloise who managed 24 shots at goal compared to the away side’s two.
Kortrijk go into this game with some in-form talent, with veteran Frenchman Teddy Chevalier proving his worth at 34 years of age and the former Saint Gilloise man Faiz Selemanie also starting the season brightly. We think Kortrijk have shown enough to take all three points on the road.
Kortrijk win @ 2.70
Waregem vs Charleroi
This is an interesting match-up as Charleroi have only concede two in the opening four games, the joint fewest, whereas Waregem have conceded eight, the joint most.
Charleroi are yet to lose and we can’t see them losing this one either. They are a very well organised side and Belgian youngster Anass Zaroury poses a threat going forward. They should be defensively sound enough to see off this Waregem team.
Charleroi win @ 2.40
Club Brugge vs Beerschot VA
This could be the biggest mismatch of the season on matchday five – at Bet777.be, the odds of a Beerschot VA win currently stand @ 15.00!
The Champions are favourites for good reason. Their last performance against Waregem was their best yet. The young partnership of Noa Lang and Charles de Ketelaere have clicked, registering three goals and five assists between them, so expect more goals for them here!
Beerschot VA have had a poor start to the season, picking up just one point in their opening four games. They have leaked goals at the back and failed to score on three occasions. They have a mountain to climb in Bruges, and they haven’t shown us anything to think they’re capable of doing so.
Club Brugge win @ 1.19
KV Mechelen vs Saint Gilloise
Another side utilising a three man defence to good effect, the league leaders Saint Gilloise have conceded the joint fewest goals and have been scoring freely themselves. The strike partnership of Dante Vanzeir and Deniz Undav has been impressive thus far and looks unplayable at times. The German has carried the goalscoring responsibility, netting four times in four games, with the Belgian playing a more supportive role, registering three assists.
KV Mechelen have been on a downwards slope after beating Antwerp in their opening game and have now lost three in a row seeing them plummet down the Jupiler Pro League rankings. Dutchman Ferdy Druijf got off to a dream start with a brace in his side’s only win, but has since not received enough support for Mechelen to be competitive. We can’t see them keeping this confident St. Gilloise team at bay.
Saint Gilloise win @ 2.05
