Jupiler Pro League: Playoff Round 2 Preview

Antwerp vs Genk

A shock 1-0 win against Union SG saw Genk move to third in the Jupiler Pro League rankings, just eight points behind the top two.

They have now won four and drawn one of their last six games, peaking at the perfect time as they go in search of an unexpected title challenge.

It was a contrasting result for Antwerp in the first round of playoff fixtures after they lost 1-0 against Anderlecht. A first-half red card saw them reduced to 10 men for 45 minutes, with the only goal of the game coming after an hour thanks to Killian Sardella.

Despite a negative result last weekend, we expect the hosts to bounce back. Antwerp are a different beat on home soil and have lost just once in their last 13 home matches.

With Genk having won just once in their previous five away games, Antwerp look favourites to claim a crucial three points.

Antwerp to win – 2.23

Union Saint-Gilloise vs Cercle Brugge

Union’s 1-0 defeat saw them drop to second, behind their closest title rivals Anderlecht. They will be experiencing similar feelings to last season, when they led for a long time before stumbling at the final hurdle.

However, USG have been a far more consistent side this season and should have no problem bouncing back against Cercle Brugge on home soil.

They have won 14 and lost just one of their previous 18 home matches this season. They have also won five consecutive home matches against Cercle Brugge.

Cercle Brugge drew 1-1 in the derby last time out, meaning they now have just one win in four.

They have lost both meetings with Union this season and will struggle to keep pace with them away from home this weekend.

Union Saint-Gilloise to win – 1.72

Club Brugge vs Anderlecht

Everything seems to be falling into place for Anderlecht this season. After trailing for the majority of the campaign, they now find themselves in pole position following their historic win against Union.

And we’re backing them to continue that fine form at the Jan Breydel Stadion.

They will go into the tie as huge 4.00 underdogs. However, they are in far better form than Club Brugge having won seven of their last eight matches.

Club Brugge have only won four of their last 10 matches in all competitions. While they are typically stronger on home soil, they have not beaten Anderlecht at the Jan Breydel in their last five attempts.

Anderlecht to win – 4.00
