Jupiler Pro League: Playoff Round 1 Preview

It’s time for the first round of Jupiler Pro League playoffs as Union Saint-Gilloise look to defend their three-point lead at the summit. We’ve previewed the opening round of games, picking out some potential winners based on the latest Jupiler Pro League odds.

Whether you choose to play with Bet777.be or any other online sportsbook, you can enjoy a range of online betting markets on all the biggest games.

Leuven vs KV Mechelen

KV Mechelen are just a single point behind Gent in the Conference League playoffs as they prepare to face Leuven. These two teams met just two weeks ago in the final match of the regular season, with Leuven running out 1-0 victors.

It was KV Mechelen’s first defeat following a nine-match unbeaten run and they were unlucky not to come away with at least a point.

The victory remains Leuven’s only win in the previous six games and they will find it tough to deal with Mechelen’s strong attacking lineup two games in a row.

KV Mechelen to win – 2.56

Cercle Brugge vs Club Brugge

The latest episode of the Bruges derby has huge consequences as both sides go in search of European football for next season.

Club Brugge are two points better off than their city rivals heading into the game but were beaten 2-1 by St. Truiden on the last day of the regular season.

In contrast, Cercle Brugge were 4-0 winners against RWDM, meaning they have now lost just once in their last seven outings.

This has been a very even affair in the past two seasons, with the last three Bruges derbies ending in draws. Given Club Brugge have been a long way off their best, we can see this being another tight contest at the Jan Bredyel Stadion.

Draw – 3.55

Genk vs Union Saint-Gilloise

Union may have drawn their final two games of the regular Jupiler Pro League campaign but second-place Anderlecht’s 1-0 defeat against Kortrijk means there is a three-point gap at the top.

Saint-Gilloise have travelled incredibly well this season and have lost just once in their previous 14 away games in all competitions. This run includes four wins in their previous five away from home.

Genk just about rescued a place in the Championship Playoffs following a turbulent run of results. Three wins in their last five games was enough to see them qualify ahead of Gent on goal difference.

However, they have suffered this season as a result of losing a number of key players. They are still in with a chance of securing European qualification, but given the inconsistency of their performances this campaign, it’s unlikely they can challenge those above them.

Union Saint-Gilloise to win – 2.30
