With the Jupiler Pro League paused for the international break, now is the perfect time to take a closer look at the contenders for the title.
After 10 rounds of fixtures, Genk top the table on 22 points having picked up seven wins and a draw.
Not surprisingly given their start to the season, Thorsten Fink’s side are currently favourites to lift the trophy for a fifth time.
But as we all know, football is a funny old game and the landscape can change very quickly.
Read on as we run through the odds offered in Bet777’s outright winner market and explore whether the betting suggests any of Genk’s rivals could pip them to glory.
*All odds are subject to change
Genk – 3.00
As mentioned, table-topping Genk are hotly tipped to win the title. Priced at 3.00, Fink’s men went into the international break with a three-point cushion over second-placed Antwerp. Like Antwerp, they have scored 21 goals in 10 outings. But the fact Jonas De Roeck’s side boast a superior goal difference having conceded six less than the leaders suggests they will fight Genk every step of the way.
Club Brugge – 3.50
Despite sitting fifth in the table, odds of 3.50 suggest Club Brugge have the best chance of beating Genk to silverware. Nicky Hayen’s team endured a difficult start to their league campaign, picking up just a point from their first three games. The defending champions rebounded with four successive wins but the wheels came off again before the international break. With a defeat and two draws recorded in their last three Pro League outings, there is clearly work to be done.
Union Saint-Gilloise – 5.50
Despite languishing 10th in the Pro League table, Union Saint-Gilloise are priced at 5.50 to win the title. If they are to repay the faith bettors have placed in them so far, Sebastien Pocognoli’s side will have to start changing draws into wins. Having already shared the spoils on five occasions this season, it could be argued that fine margins are the only thing holding back the men from Brussels. But Pocognoli will know they cannot afford to keep dropping precious points if they want to finish on top.
Antwerp – 6.00
As it stands, 6.00 for Antwerp to win the Pro League looks very generous. De Roeck’s team, who do not have the distraction of European football, won four games on the spin heading into the break and are unbeaten in their last five league outings. An inconsistent start saw them win two and lose three of their opening five games but momentum is now clearly on their side. Assuming they can pick up where they left off when the league resumes, Antwerp could be firmly in the mix for glory.
Anderlecht – 11.00
Five points adrift of Genk, Anderlecht are quietly going about their business. They started strongly with 10 points from their first four league games but a run of just three points from the next four slowed their charge. Following the dismissal of Brian Riemer last month, David Hubert finds himself in charge as interim first-team coach. Hubert’s chances of landing the role on a permanent basis will largely rest on ensuring a team that has only lost once this term starts to convert more draws into wins.
