KVC Westerlo vs Anderlecht
This weekend’s Jupiler Pro League action kicks off on Friday night at Het Kuipje where Westerlo host Anderlecht. The home side have won just one of their last six games in all competitions and currently find themselves 15th in the league table. Westerlo’s poor home form has been a theme this campaign – they have won fewer points at home (4) than any other team. Five defeats in seven at home means there will be little confidence as they take on the in-form Anderlecht.
A late winner against RWDM completed a memorable comeback at Lotto Park last weekend, taking Anderlecht to within four points of the top of the table. The win extends their run of just one defeat in their previous 15 matches, something which is unlikely to change when they take on Westerlo. The two sides have been worlds apart this season, and Anderlecht will be hoping to keep the pressure on Union at the top.
Anderlecht to win – 1.74
Genk vs Gent
The pick of ths week’s Jupiler Pro League fixtures comes from the Cegeka Arena as Genk welcome Gent. It’s been a rocky season thus far for Genk, who come into this match with just one win in their previous three league outings. They have not exactly excelled on home soil, picking up just 10 points in seven games, ranking them as the 11th best home team in the division. They don’t lose many, but they rarely win at home. Remarkably, they have drawn five of their last seven home matches.
Gent are another side that tend to pick up draws in the bigger games. Their last two league games have been against Anderlecht and Union Saint-Gilloise, both of which have ended 1-1. They are I good form coming into this one, but will do well to claim all three points against a tough Genk side.
Draw – 3.62
Club Brugge vs Standard Liege
Club Brugge are having a torrid season and currently sit 7th in the Jupiler Pro League, 12 points adrift from the top. It is not an insurmountable number, but their title hopes are likely over already. For all of their inconsistencies, Brugge will take confidence from their solid defensive record – only two teams in the division have conceded fewer.
That defensive record should serve them well as they take on St. Liege. The visitors lost their last away game 6-0 in Antwerp and only three teams have scored fewer goals away from home. These are two sides having relatively poor seasons, but Brugge should have the edge in a cagey affair.
Club Brugge win to nil – 2.70
