St. Truiden vs Antwerp
Champions Antwerp have put together a couple of impressive back-to-back performances in the Jupiler Pro League following a 2-1 defeat to Club Brugge. They have since beaten Genk 3-2 in a five-goal thriller and pulverised St. Liege 6-0 at Bosuilstadion. They will be expected to pick up all three points when they travel to face St. Truiden on Friday night.
The hosts are unbeaten in three league games, but you have to take into account the lack of quality in those opposition. All three of those matches were against teams in the bottom of six, and only one of them Antwerp managed to win. Antwerp were victorious in both meetings between these sides last season without conceding a goal. We could well see another Antwerp win and clean sheet to kick off the weekend’s action.
Antwerp to win – 1.92
Standard Liege vs Genk
After an incredible seven-match unbeaten run stretching two months, St. Liege seem to have collapsed. They are now without a win in three and were hammered 6-0 last time out. There is every chance the wheels come off their season following the embarrassing loss, with Liege having already plummeted to ninth in the table.
Genk come into this game off the back of a 3-1 win over Leuven, bouncing back from a 3-2 defeat against Antwerp. They have been particularly impressive away from home this season, with league leaders Union the only team to win more points on the road in the Jupiler Pro League.
Genk to win – 1.92
Gent vs Union Saint-Gilloise
It’s table-toppers Union against third-placed Gent in the pick of this weekend’s Jupiler Pro League fixtures. The hosts are unbeaten in six in all competitions and currently trail the league leaders by seven points. However, that gap could be increased to 10 points this weekend, essentially ending Gent’s title hopes.
Union have lost just one league game away from home this season and have the best away record in the division. They looked unstoppable in their recent 3-0 win over Kortrijk, following up a 2-1 victory against Belgian giants Club Brugge. We’re not sure there is any team capable of stopping Saint-Gilloise as they continue their pursuit of what would be a historic title-winning campaign.
Union Saint-Gilloise to win – 2.60
