Jupiler Pro League: Matchday 13 Preview

Matchday 12 in the Jupiler Pro League was another cracker as league leaders Union Saint-Gilloise came from a goal down to beat Westerlo 3-1 and Club Brugge beat champions Antwerp 2-1 with a last-minute winner. We’ve previewed matchday 13’s action and put together a four-fold accumulator with football betting odds of 36.60.

Antwerp vs Genk

After their 2-1 defeat at the Jan Breydel Stadion last weekend, Antwerp fell to 7th in the Jupiler Pro League standings, 11 points off the top and 10 points off the bottom. It is the first time the champions have lost back-to-back league games this season and the title already seems to have slipped away from them.

Genk are on a 10-match unbeaten streak in the league and are in the ascendancy. They thumped Kortrijk 3-0 last time out, meaning they have now scored seven without conceding in their last two matches. The visitors have also performed well against the big teams this campaign, having beaten Saint-Gilloise and drawn with Anderlecht, Club Brugge, and Gent. We can see them taking a point from Antwerp.

Draw – 3.57

Cercle Brugge vs Anderlecht

These are two of the most in-form sides in the Jupiler Pro League. Cercle Brugge have now won three successive league matches, which has seen them rise to 4th in the table. However, although we saw them beat Gent in an impressive 2-0 win a fortnight ago, they have also lost to Kortrijk and RWDM in the last six weeks.

Anderlecht bounced back from a disappointing 3-2 defeat in Liege with a 5-1 drubbing of Leuven. Danish forward Anders Dreyer continued his fine form with a hat-trick, taking his tally to six goals and one assist in 10 league appearances. They are hot on the heels of Union and need to keep the pressure on with a win this weekend.

Anderlecht win – 2.70

Standard Liege vs KV Mechelen

Standard Liege’s seven-match unbeaten run came to an end on matchday 12 at the hands of Gent. However, they could consider themselves very unlucky. Although Wilfried Kanga scored in the 3-1 defeat, he also missed two penalties for Liege. On another day, they could have left the KAA Gent Arena with a point.

Mechelen have now lost five of their previous six league games following a 2-0 defeat to Cercle Brugge. They have failed to score in two consecutive games and we can’t see them having enough quality or confidence to cause Standard too many issues.

Standard Liege win – 1.88

Charleroi vs Gent

Albeit in rather lucky fashion, Gent bounced back from defeat with a 3-1 win over Liege at the weekend. The victory keeps them within five points of the league leaders, with another winnable game on the horizon.

Charleroi are one of the more inconsistent sides in the division. Wins against RWDM and Antwerp were followed up with a 2-0 defeat against Eupen on matchday 12. They may boast the 6th best home record in the league, but Gent should be a class above as they continue their hunt for the title.

Gent win – 2.02
