It’s matchday 6 of the Jupiler Pro League 23/24 season and what a set of fixtures we have in store! Against all football odds, Anderlecht have taken an early lead at the summit of table, winning four of their opening five matches. How long can they stay on top?

Gent vs Club Brugge
The first of three cracking Jupiler Pro League fixtures sees last season’s surprise package Gent take on Club Brugge. Brugge are looking to put last season behind them after a poor campaign and they have come flying out the blocks. They have won three of their four outings thus far, dropping their only points on the opening day of the season. They have since been almost flawless, beating Westerlo 1-0, Eupen 5-0, and thumping RWDM 7-1.
Gent have also started well picking up 10 points from a possible 12. However, their opponents this weekend will be their toughest challenge yet. Hugo Cuypers and Gift Orban have started the season well for the hosts and they will need to be at their very best if they are to snatch any points this week. Unfortunately for Gent fans, this Club Brugge side means business. New signings Igor Thiago and Philip Zinckerngael have hit the ground running, while Andreas Skov Olsen looks primed for a major breakthrough season in blue and black.
Club Brugge win – 2.67
Union Saint-Gilloise vs Antwerp
Saint-Gilloise have also started the season well, winning three of their opening four matches, including hard-fought victories over Anderlecht and Standard Liege. A spanner was thrown in the works when they were beaten 4-0 away to KV Mechelen, but they immediately bounced back in a European qualifier. Dennis Eckert Ayensa is proving an ample replacement at the tip of St. Gilloise’s attack, with the German netting four in as many matches to start the Jupiler Pro League season off.
It’s been a mixed start for Antwerp. Positive wins over Cercle Brugge and Kortrijk have also been accompanied by a defeat to Anderlecht and a 1-1 draw with Leuven. They will need to improve quickly if they are to avoid slipping behind the frontrunners, but they won’t be worrying just yet. Given what we’ve seen from both these sides so far, we can only see this going one way.
Union Saint-Gilloise win – 2.32
Genk vs Anderlecht
Yet another superb fixture to look forward to, and once again we’re backing the bookies’ underdog. Anderlecht are much improved on last season and currently sit at the top of the table. They might have played one game more, but they are good value for their lead at the summit. Kasper Dolberg is another player who seems to have taken well to life in Belgium and he will be crucial in firing Anderlecht to the European play-offs.
Genk are always a dangerous opponent, especially when they are at home. However, their squad has been ravaged in the summer transfer window, with potentially even more players on their way out the door before it closes. We can’t see them being quite the same as last season after losing key attacking talents.
Anderlecht win – 3.84
