Club Brugge secured their spot in the play-offs on Wednesday evening, thanks to a huge 3-0 win over Marseille, with Romeo Vermant once again on the scoresheet.
So both sides enter this fixture on the back of victories in Europe, which only adds to the pre-match narrative.
But USG have been the better side domestically since Belgian football resumed after the winter break.
David Hubert’s side qualified for the Croky Cup semi-finals with a 2-0 win at Dender, and then beat Mechelen 1-0 in the Pro League. However, last weekend’s 0-0 draw at OH Leuven put a bit of a downer on things, with STVV now only a point behind the leaders in the table.
Club Brugge’s form has been far more chaotic, though. A 2-0 defeat at Charleroi in the Croky Cup quarter-finals was followed by a shock 3-2 home loss vs La Louviere, and they only just bounced back last weekend courtesy of a thrilling 4-3 win over Zulte Waregem.
Who knows what Leko’s side will bring to the table this weekend, though Club Brugge do have a good recent record against USG, following up a 2-1 success in last July’s Belgian Super Cup with October’s 1-0 home league victory.
