The new Jupiler Pro League season is edging ever closer and excitement levels are building, with action finally getting underway on Friday evening.
As per usual, Belgium’s top flight is the first of the major European leagues to get started and we have some amazing fixtures to look forward to on Matchday 1 of 2025-26.
All eyes will be on defending champions Union Saint-Gilloise, while Zulte Waregem and La Louviere are the two latest additions to the Pro League after earning promotion from the second tier.

Union Saint-Gilloise to beat Royal Antwerp @ 2.10
USG were close to unstoppable at the end of the last season as they shocked the world to claim the Pro League crown. Over the summer, the team from Brussels has not really lost any key players, with star striker Franjo Ivanovic ready to take the league by storm again. The Croatian star scored in the 2-1 Belgian Super Cup defeat to Club Brugge last weekend, though we are predicting he and his team-mates to bounce back in style against an Antwerp side which was inconsistent at the best of times in 2024-25.
Club Brugge vs Genk: Under 2.5 goals in the match @ 2.14
Club Brugge will be in great spirits following the aforementioned win over USG, with Christos Tzolis and Hans Vanaken both on the scoresheet. But a match against Genk is far from the easiest of starts and we are predicting this to be a very close game. And the last three meetings between these two sides in the Pro League have featured under 2.5 goals, with Club Brugge also winning all three of those matches. Another 1-0 or 2-0 win for Nicky Hayen’s side against Genk? It seems a likely outcome given recent history.
La Louviere to beat Standard Liege @ 2.52
Standard ended last season in horrific fashion, failing to win any of their 10 matches in the Play-Off round. They also failed to score a single goal in the final four games, which is why a relegation battle for Standard is being widely tipped by Belgian football fans. Up first is a tricky away game against newly-promoted La Louviere, a team who will have extra motivation to perform in front of their fans. This could be a very tense Matchday 1 fixture, but we are predicting the home side to handle the pressure.
Mechelen to beat Zulte Waregem @ 2.14
Mechelen ended last season on a five-match unbeaten run, though four of those results were draws. On their day, they can be a brilliant watch, but inconsistency cost them dearly at times in 2024-25. Mechelen will be eager to make a big statement on Matchday 1 of this season and while a trip to Zulte Waregem is not easy, the visitors should have enough firepower to pick up all three points on the road.
