Gent vs Westerlo
These are two teams that had an eye on the top four at one stage, but a string of poor results resigned them to a place in the Conference League playoff group. Defeat to relegated Oostende on the final day of the regular campaign saw Gent lose fourth place to Club Brugge. The hosts are now without a win in five as they go in search of European football once more.
Despite struggling toward the back end of the season, that defeat to Oostende was only a second in 11 home games. It might have been a costly one, but they tend to perform better on home soil. They will need to be back at their best if they are to compete with a visiting Westerlo.
The away side have not won in four matches but have only lost twice in 13. They have drawn three consecutive games, including a 0-0 draw with Club Brugge, and they will fancy their chances of snatching a point at the Ghelamco.
Draw – 4.33
Cercle Brugge vs Standard Liege
Both of these teams have had good second halves of the season and we’re backing a Cercle Brugge win based on their form at Jan Breydel Stadion. They are undefeated in eight on home soil and have lost only to Antwerp and Westerlo at home. Their recent results in Bruges include three wins in four, drawing the other game against league leaders Genk.
Standard Liege have won just two away games in 11 since the World Cup. They have not kept a clean sheet on the road in 2023 and will do well to claim anything from a Cercle Brugge side that have scored in 13 of their previous 14 home matches.
Cercle Brugge to win – 1.91
Genk vs Club Brugge
This is undoubtedly the biggest Jupiler Pro League 2023 tie of the weekend. Genk have run out of steam in the past couple of months and find themselves tied on points with Union Saint-Gilloise at the top of the table. Their inconsistencies have been on full display in the last two weeks, hammering Anderlecht 5-2, only to draw 2-2 with Charleroi. There isn’t an awful lot separating these sides and it could go either way.
We’re just about siding with the champions given they appear to be building a head of steam. Four successive clean sheets and a 7-0 drubbing of Eupen on the final day of the season has left Club Brugge with an outside chance of retaining the title. There is a lot of work still to do if they are to catch the top two, but it could all start at the Cegeka Arena this weekend.
Club Brugge to win – 2.91
