Jupiler Pro League 2023: Genk vs Antwerp Preview
After winning their first three post-season games, Antwerp appeared to be cruising toward the title. But defeat to Club Brugge and a 1-1 draw with Union Saint-Gilloise has left them balancing precariously on top.
Genk have unexpectedly found themselves with a chance of lifting the trophy too, despite winning just two of their five outings in the play offs. They would need Club Brugge to do them a favour and take points off Union whilst also beating Antwerp but it’s not beyond the realms of possibility.
Antwerp have had the better of this fixture this season. After losing 3-1 to Genk early in the campaign, they have since won all three matches against this weekend’s opposition. Two of those victories have been accompanied by clean sheets, with the most recent a 2-1 win in the reverse play off fixture.
Genk might not have had the best end to the Jupiler Pro League 2023 campaign, but their home form is impressive. They are undefeated in four at the Cegeka Arena, including wins against Anderlecht and Club Brugge, as well as a draw against Union.
Genk vs Antwerp: Key Players
The key man for the hosts is Joseph Paintsil. He scored twice in Genk’s 3-1 win against Club Brugge last time out and has been on the scoresheet in each of their previous three wins. When he plays well, Genk tend to win.
For the visitors, Vincent Janssen will be the main man responsible to firing Antwerp to the title. He has scored twice in his last three appearances and has netted 21 in all competitions this season. He has filled the boots of Michael Frey admirably and will play a huge part in Antwerp’s quest to outscore a dynamic Genk attack.
Jupiler Pro League 2023 Betting Tips
Genk win and both teams to score – 3.88
We have a feeling Genk could lift the trophy in front of a home crowd. The Cegeka Arena will be rocking and the players should respond accordingly. They are yet to keep a clean sheet in the play offs but can comfortably outscore any Belgian opposition on their day.
Joseph Paintsil first goalscorer – 7.50
Paintsil is Genk’s key to victory and could yet build on his 17 goals for the season. The 25-year-old has stepped up since the departure of Paul Onuachu and we’re backing him to find the net on the final day.
