Jupiler Pro League 2023/24: Season Preview

The new football season is just around the corner and the Jupiler Pro League 2023/24 campaign promises to be an exhilarating one. Can champions Antwerp retain their title or will Club Brugge be back with a vengeance? Can Genk and Union Saint-Gilloise continue operating at the very top or will the loss of key players see them slip down the table?

Whether you choose to play at Bet777.be or any other online sportsbook, you can enjoy a huge array of sports betting markets for the biggest events this year.

Jupiler Pro League Title Contenders

Last season truly ended in incredible fashion as Toby Alderweireld scored a last-minute goal to lead his boyhood club to their first league title since the 1950s. They will be eyeing up another campaign at the top, but they will have to ward off the likes of Club Brugge, Genk and Union if they are to claim back-to-back titles.

After a season to forget, Club Brugge have already gone about strengthening their squad, bringing in exciting young talents Hugo Vetlesen (Bodo/Glimt), Igor Thiago (Ludogorets) and Victor Barbera (Barcelona). There is plenty of time left in the transfer window and it is unlikely the 18-time champions will stop there.

Genk will also be in the running once more but will have to carefully navigate the potential loss of key players. Having lost Paul Onuachu mid-way through last season, there is now lots of interest around Joseph Painstil and Belgian Player of the Year Mike Tresor. Should they manage to keep hold of their standout assets, they are in with a good chance of pushing the other favourites close.

Union seem to consistently sign players that go on to perform in the Jupiler Pro League. They have already started acquiring talents from abroad, and based off their recent record, we have every reason to believe they will go on to succeed. But will it be enough to compete with the big guns?

Jupiler Pro League Relegation Candidates

Seraing, Waregem and Oostende were the unfortunate teams to lose their spot in the top-flight with the league cutting down from 18 to 16 teams. Eupen avoided the drop by a single point, and without significant reinforcements, they are likely to be battling at the bottom once again this season.

The newly promoted RWDM will also be expected to struggle. They topped the promotion group after losing just once in their final 10 games of the season, earning a spot in the Jupiler Pro League. The step-up will be tough, but both Saint-Gilloise and Westerlo have proven that newly promoted teams can go on to succeed in a relatively short space of time.

It also helps that RWDM have a quality goalscorer in Mickael Biron, who netted 16 times in 27 league games last season. The former Oostende striker has proven worth the €2.50m, and his form will be crucial if they are to retain their spot in the first division of Belgian football.
