Jupiler Pro League 2022/23: Team of the Season

Another cracking Jupiler Pro League campaign has come to an end and we’ve taken a look at some of the standout performers in Belgium this season.

At Bet777.be, there is a huge variety of football betting markets to choose from, including plenty of live betting opportunities.

Goalkeeper – Maarten Vandevoordt

At just 21 years old, Vandevoordt had an incredible campaign, just narrowly missing out on his first league title at Genk. Across 43 games in all competitions, he conceded 50 goals and kept 10 clean sheets, earning him a move to German giants RB Leipzig.

Centre Back – Toby Alderweireld

He’s been a leader since signing for Antwerp, helping his side to achieve the best defensive record in the division, while scoring the title-winning goal on top.

Centre Back – Christian Burgess

Burgess has been a rock for three years since arriving in Belgium from Portsmouth. The 31-year-old is an experienced, cool head at the heart of Union Saint-Gilloise’s back line, and was unlucky not to get his hands on a league title.

Centre Back – Jordan Torunarigha

The German looks a brilliant signing from Hertha Berlin. His first full season was an overwhelming success, occupying the left spot in Gent’s strong back four. With six goals and assists to his name too, he will be one to watch next season.

Central Midfield – Teddy Teuma

Maltese midfielder Teddy Teuma has gone from strength to strength in the past few seasons, with 2022/23 his best yet. 10 goals and 10 assists in 36 games is a brilliant return and the 29-year-old will no doubt be a key piece in Union’s title charge next campaign.

Central Midfield – Bryan Heynen

Heynen is the first of three Genk players in our team of the season. He popped up with some crucial goals and ended the season with 15 goals and assists in 39 league games. At 26-years-old, there is still room to improve.

Right Midfield – Joseph Paintsil

Next up from Genk is winger Joseph Paintsil. The Ghanaian registered 17 goals and 12 assists in 36 Jupiler Pro League appearances, a huge factor in Genk’s impressive campaign. If it weren’t for Mike Tresor, he would probably be our player of the season.

Left Midfield – Mike Tresor

Mike Tresor had the breakthrough season of his young career, scoring eight and assisting an incredible 24 goals. He was deservedly awarded Belgian Footballer of the Year and could well be attracting interest from top European clubs as a result.

Centre Forward – Hugo Cuypers

The league’s top scorer with 27 goals in 39 league games, Hugo Cuypers was a revelation this season. He also performed on the European stage, netting 6 in 11 Conference League outings. If Gent can push on toward a top four finish next season, he will be spearheading that attack.

Centre Forward – Gift Orban

Although Gift Orban only featured in 16 league games, he was so mightily impressive that he earned a spot in our team of the season anyway. He was electrifying in those outings, scoring 15 league goals, not to mention the five goals he scored in Europe. Gent will do well to keep hold of him this summer.
