Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson Preview, Odds & Betting Tips

Whether you agree with it or not, Mike Tyson makes his return to pro boxing on Friday night at the grand old age of 58.

While Iron Mike is in great shape for the bout with Jake Paul, it remains to be seen whether Netflix’s gamble on the eight-round contest pays off.

Paul, 27, boasts a record of 10 wins and one defeat, with that loss coming against Britain’s Tommy Fury via split decision.

The brash American, who first found fame by posting videos on the now defunct Vine, clearly fancies his chances of upsetting one of the biggest names the sport has ever seen.

Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson Preview

Considering Tyson’s last professional bout took place in 2005, the announcement of a money-spinning dance with Paul raised more than a few eyebrows.

The validity of the fight was questioned once again when it was rescheduled due to Iron Mike suffering an ulcer flare-up while flying.

But the former WBC, WBA and IBF world heavyweight champ is determined to silence the critics.

He said: “I believe I can do it. I’m coming to get him. I’m coming straight for him as soon as the bell rings.”

Writing in his column for The Mirror, boxing legend Barry McGuigan expressed his dismay at Paul being given the platform to share the ring with an all-time great.

He said: “I am frustrated we are giving a guy who meddles in boxing a chance to take centre stage in Texas.

“I have no issues with Paul, per se. He trains at the Wild Card gym in LA, which is admirable, but fighting a 58-year-old who needs the money does not serve boxing.

“Tyson doesn’t care if he humiliates himself, but I do. He was one of the fiercest fighters of all time, one of the greatest at his peak.

“In that sense he is synonymous with boxing. So he doesn’t just tarnish himself but the sport.”

Despite being labelled by many as little more than a freak show, the contest may still produce the fireworks casual fans are banking on.

Due to his age and inactivity, Tyson goes into this eight-rounder as the underdog to win at 2.95. Paul, who is effectively still a novice, enters as the favourite at 1.37.

If Tyson has even half the ferocity of old in his punches, it would be no surprise to see the veteran stop his opponent in explosive fashion. With 3.60 available on him winning via KO, TKO or disqualification, fans of Iron Mike could be very tempted to back him to the hilt once again.

Should you believe the ex-champion can fly out of the corner and secure a victory in the opening round, 17.00 may be too good to overlook.
