Belgium begin their final preparations for the 2026 World Cup with a friendly against the United States of America on Saturday evening.
Of course, the Americans are one of the host nations for this summer’s tournament – alongside Canada and Mexico – and this match is being played at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
So it will perhaps give the Belgian squad some good preparation in terms of conditions, with the Red Devils scheduled to play two of their three group games (vs Egypt and Iran) in the USA.
Furthermore, it will give manager Rudi Garcia – who only replaced Domenico Tedesco in January 2025 – the ideal platform to test out some new tactics and team selections ahead of the World Cup.

Since losing 2-1 to Mexico in the CONCACAF Gold Cup final last July, the USA have played six friendly matches.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side won four of those contests, including each of the last three vs Australia (2-1), Paraguay (2-1) and – most impressively – Uruguay (5-1).
So this will be a stern examination of Belgium’s credentials, though the Red Devils have collected some huge wins of their own in recent matches.
Back in September, Garcia’s men dealt thrashings to Liechtenstein (0-6) and Kazakhstan (6-0), before claiming a 4-2 victory in Wales the following month.
Belgium finished their World Cup qualifying campaign with a 7-0 home victory over Liechtenstein, and the Red Devils are on a nine-match unbeaten run.
Garcia’s sole defeat as manager came against Ukraine (3-1) last March in the first leg of a Nations League play-off, but a 3-0 win in the second leg was enough to secure victory – and kickstart the current positive streak.
Romelu Lukaku is unavailable for this game after Belgium’s record scorer withdrew from the squad to focus on regaining full match fitness.
Leandro Trossard and Club Brugge playmaker Hans Vanaken are also out, so Garcia is having to deal with a bit of a depleted squad, which could pave the way for an experimental starting XI in Atlanta.
