Germany Vs Scotland
Friday 14th June, 8pm
Allianz Arena, Munich, Germany
Live on ITV and STV

The hosts will be looking to make a statement in their first game of the home competition. Their talented squad has many tipping them to be underdogs to win the tournament. Which doesn’t quite make sense, as any one underestimating this German team and expecting them to do anything less than go very far if not all the way in this tournament, is sorely mistaken. The Germans are the bookies third favourites for the trophy so we definitely don’t consider them an outside shout, they will be looking to win every game they play this summer and will have no time for the Scotland fairytale.

Their playstyle is calm and measured under Julian Nagelsmann, turning defence into attack ruthlessly and overwhelming unsuspecting opponents. Expect to see Germany dominating possession this Friday, with classy defenders they will work the ball nicely to their attacking players who all have the cutting edge needed to score and create goals. Their main feature may well be their talented midfield, headed by Toni Kroos who will be looking to say goodbye to the beautiful game in spectacular fashion.

Scotland qualified for the tournament through the play offs and will look to be a surprise package that not too many expect to even make it past the group stages. And although they definitely have a tough task ahead of them, they may well just shock a few people on the way. Steve Clarke’s side have a wealth of talent at their disposal and players experienced in top leagues are critical to surviving in international football.

Premier League regulars among others will face Germany this friday in an organised side that will try to smother and outwork Germany, keeping them out of the penalty area and then striking fast in possession. In this unforgiving group, Scotland will need to fight until the very end of every game and take nothing for granted. But that fighting spirit is characteristic of this squad and they will look to take the game to all of their opponents, no matter who that may be or at what stage of the tournament.

The two teams have only faced off four times since the year 2000, with Germany winning three of those ties, and one ending in a 1-1 draw.

Hav Some of That
Arsenal’s Kai Havertz has been making waves in the Premier League this season with some impressive performances and 13 league goals. He sits at 2.52 to score anytime and 5.30 to be the game’s first goalscorer.

2’s Company
With Germany the convincing favourites we think the home crowd will guide them to victory in the tournament opener. Our preferred scoreline is 2-0, which currently sits at 5.80.

Wunderkind
However, if you’ve been watching the Bundesliga this season you’ll be aware of Florian Wirtz. The youngster has shown himself to be one of Europe’s top prospects and we have him tipped to be a breakout star of the competition. Wirtz to score, Germany to win and over 1.5 goals in the game is at 3.00.
