Formula 1: Hungarian Grand Prix 2025 Preview

Australian Grand Prix

This weekend sees the final Formula 1 race before the prolonged summer break.

And it should be an absolutely fantastic contest, because the track in Hungary – the world-renowned Hungaroring located near downtown Budapest – rarely disappoints.

Loved by fans and drivers alike, the Hungarian GP is a standout event on the annual European sporting calendar, a festival of motorsport action.

After an enthralling race at Spa in the Belgian GP last weekend, we take a look at the sports betting online odds for the next battle on the Formula 1 calendar.

Hungarian Grand Prix Preview

McLaren continued their 2025 dominance in Belgium last weekend.

Another one-two finish for Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris has seen them extend their leads at the top of the Driver’s Championship, with the former claiming first place at Spa and taking his individual advantage at the top of the tree to 16 points.

Thanks to a lethal combo of high-quality car performance and perfectly-executed driving strategy, Piastri or Norris have claimed victory in the last three GPs.

The McLaren pair are beginning to establish a level of dominance akin to the best versions of Max Verstappen at Red Bull and Lewis Hamilton with Mercedes.

Of course, Verstappen and Hamilton could have a major say in Hungary this weekend, despite both failing to make the podium in Belgium. Why? Because they have typically enjoyed previous success in this race.

Hamilton (now with Ferrari) has won the Hungarian GP a ridiculous eight times, his first win coming in 2007 and the last in 2020.

Verstappen claimed back-to-back first-place finishes in 2022 and 2023, though he had to settle for fifth spot last year as Piastri secured the win ahead of Norris and Hamilton.

But while Verstappen and Hamilton will be eager to challenge the McLaren pair, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc is also a candidate to get on the podium in Hungary.

Leclerc finished third at Spa after claiming the bronze medal in Austria and he is beginning to close the gap to Mercedes’ George Russell in the Driver’s Championship (now only 18 points behind).

Russell’s last podium finish came in Canada on June 15, a race he actually won ahead of Verstappen.

Mercedes’ main man is the only other race winner this season aside from Piastri, Norris and Verstappen, further highlighting just how top-heavy the F1 table is!

Nevertheless, the Hungarian GP should provide some thrills and spills – and do not be surprised if a fifth race winner of the season is crowned this Sunday.
