Osasuna vs Sevilla

La Liga football kicks off on Friday night in Pamplona where Osasuna take on Sevilla. The hosts finished comfortably in midtable last season, but will be hoping to push on towards the European places in the 2022/23 campaign. They will be underdogs in their opening fixture as they welcome Champions League Sevilla.

The visitors finished last season with the best defensive record in the league, but losing Diego Carlos and Jules Kounde could be costly. They have brought in reinforcements with Marcao and Alex Telles, but it remains to be seen whether they can effectively plug the holes. Despite their losses at the back, our football prediction is that free transfer Isco will have a standout season. He will add an extra dose of quality to Sevilla’s attack, and they should expect to get off to a winning start.

Sampdoria vs Atalanta

After a disappointing end to last season saw them miss out on European football, our football prediction is that we will see Atalanta back in the top seven this year. They have managed to keep hold of some key players, but have also strengthened with the additions of Ademola Lookman, Merih Demiral and Jeremie Boga.

The visitors will be favourites to pick up all three points in Genoa as they go head-to-head with Sampdoria. The hosts have consistently been a midtable side since their arrival back in Serie A a decade ago, but we can’t see them breaking the top 10 given their lack of activity in the transfer market this summer.

Lorient vs Lyon

We’re tipping Lyon for an impressive season in our football predictions. They have managed to keep a talented squad largely intact, adding the experience and quality of Nicolas Tagliafico, Corentin Tolisso and Alexandre Lacazette. The latter marked his return to French football with a goal and assist in Lyon’s 2-1 opening day win over AC Ajaccio, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see the former Arsenal man in the conversation for the Golden Boot come the end of the season.

Lorient narrowly avoided relegation last season, but kicked off the new campaign with a 1-0 win. They will make things tricky for the visiting Lyon, but Peter Bosz’ side will be expected to make it six points from a possible six.

Nottingham Forest vs West Ham

Forest’s return to the top-flight began with a 2-0 defeat against Newcastle, and things don’t get any easier as they prepare to host West Ham this weekend. They may have splashed the cash in the window, bringing in talent from around Europe, but it will take a little time for the squad to gel. Our football prediction is that Forest will survive the drop, but it will take a while for them to build some momentum.

West Ham had an almost impossible task against Manchester City in their opening game, but they should bounce back with a win at the City Ground. David Moyes is working miracles in East London, and they will be favourites against newly promoted opposition.
