Newcastle vs Nottingham Forest
Newly promoted Nottingham Forest face a difficult first game back in the top-flight at St. James’ Park. Newcastle have been busy in the transfer window, bolstering their defence with highly sought after centre-half Sven Botman and England international goalkeeper Nick Pope. With a now fully fit Callum Wilson leading the line supported by the flair of Allan Saint-Maximin, the Magpies are a force to be reckoned with.
Forest have plenty of character and talent of their own, but after losing some key players, our football prediction is that they will struggle this season. Newcastle is a difficult place to go at the best of times, let alone in front of a bouncing crowd excited about the upcoming season.
Newcastle win – 1.68
Strasbourg vs Monaco
Although these two teams were separated by just six points last season, our football prediction is that Strasbourg overachieved. We think they will struggle to maintain the same success levels this season, starting with a tricky opener against Monaco. Philippe Clement was a shrewd acquisition as manager, and they have invested wisely in the summer window.
Wissam Ben Yedder finished last campaign with 25 goals in 37 games, and now he’ll benefit from the support of Breel Embolo and Takumi Minamino as well as Kevin Volland. Monaco have the talent to be in and around the battle for the top three once again this season, and they could potentially be PSG’s biggest rival. They should get off to a flying start.
Monaco win – 2.65
Dortmund vs Leverkusen
Could this finally be the year that Dortmund topple Bayern’s dominance? With Robert Lewandowski leaving the German giants, it might be now or never. Dortmund have replaced Erling Haaland well with the signings of Sebastien Haller and wonderkid Karim Adeyemi. At the opposite end of the pitch, they have also acquired the talents of hot prospect Nico Schlotterbeck and five-time Bundesliga champion Niklas Sule.
This is an interesting match-up because Leverkusen have also managed to keep hold of their standout performers from last season. Our football prediction is that these two both finish in the top three once again this season, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see a different order. Dortmund have the home advantage, and they’ll be expected to pick up three points.
Dortmund win – 2.15
Toulouse vs Nice
You can get fantastic odds on Nice against the newly promoted Toulouse. Whilst the home side did impress in their title winning campaign last season, we are yet to see whether their key players can make the step up to Ligue 1. In contrast, Nice have kept hold of the players that helped them secure a European place last season, and they have now added the experience of Aaron Ramsey and potential of Alexis Beka Beka.
The football predictions think that Toulouse will put up a real fight this weekend, but we think the visitors will have the necessary know-how to get over the line. Watch out for Amine Gouiri – he looks set to have a mammoth year in France.
Nice win – 2.55
