Paulo Dybala to score vs Athletic Club @ 3.75
Roma will be riding high after an impressive display in the play-offs, taking down Porto who were up there with the favourites in the competition. It was a tough match but their creativity and proficiency in the attacking third eventually made the difference. A large part of this was the second-leg performance of Paulo Dybala. ‘La Joya’ managed a brace to see his side to victory and the talented forward will want to maintain his own momentum, as well as that of the team, when they host a strong Athletic Club side at the Stadio Olimpico.
Real Sociedad vs Manchester United: Draw @ 3.13
Manchester United will be cursing their luck after receiving arguably the toughest draw possible for the Round of 16. They face a talented Sociedad side who will fancy themselves to win the whole thing. United would also be considered failures if they don’t go all the way. A first-leg win will be a tough feat to achieve for the Red Devils and honestly, so will a draw, but this is the minimum they need to keep a hold of the tie going into the return leg at Old Trafford next week.
Ajax to beat Eintracht Frankfurt @ 2.49
Topping the Eredivisie comfortably and playing in European knockout games, are Ajax back? They’ll certainly hope so, as they face a tough test in the form of Bundesliga giants Eintracht Frankfurt. Earlier in the season, you’d probably fancy the Germans, but the loss of their star striker Omar Marmoush to Manchester City, as well as the Ajax resurgence, has turned the odds on their heads. Ajax have home advantage in the first leg and the fans will seek to create an intimidating atmosphere. It will be a tight affair, but we favour the Amsterdam club on this occasion.
Mathys Tel to score vs AZ Alkmaar @ 3.25
It’s hard to predict the performance of Premier League clubs in Europe. As usual they are always among the favourites, but there is always the potential for poor performances to rear their ‘Spursy’ heads and cause an early exit at the hands of lesser opponents. This is not to give that label to AZ, who have proven themselves over and over in the competition, beating the likes of Roma, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray – the latter over two legs. The pair have already faced off in this year’s Europa League, with Spurs emerging as 1-0 winners. Plagued by injuries, the Londoners were forced to bring in January reinforcements. But this is not a negative, as they managed to secure the signature of promising French forward Mathys Tel. And we are backing the highly-rated youngster to get on the scoresheet in this one!
