Euro 2024 Qualifier: Belgium vs Austria Preview

Tedesco began his reign with a comfortable 3-0 win over Sweden in Belgium’s first Euro 2024 qualifier, with Romelu Lukaku helping himself to a hat-trick. Days later, they travelled to Cologne and dispatched a strong German team in an impressive 3-2 victory.

There have been plenty of positives to take from the opening two games, but Tedesco must now navigate a tricky fixture against Austria without the help of his main man Kevin De Bruyne. The playmaker suffered a hamstring injury in the Champions League final, and he is expected to be out for an extended duration.

Austria currently sit on top of Group F having already played twice, and it is crucial Belgium come out on top this weekend to put themselves in pole position for the remainder of their Euro 2024 qualifiers. Despite winning twice already, Austria are yet to face tough opposition, with their opening matches against Azerbaijan and Estonia. Travelling to Belgium will prove an entirely different proposition.

Belgium vs Austria: Key Players

Although he suffered European heartbreak just a week prior, Lukaku will likely still spearhead the Belgium attack. He has been pivotal for Tedesco thus far, scoring four goals in two appearances since the arrival of the new head coach.

As well as Belgium’s all-time top scorer, we expect minutes to be handed to Genk’s Mike Tresor. The forward was recently named Belgian Footballer of the Year after registering 8 goals and 24 assists in all competitions. The 24-year-old will be desperate to impress on the international stage and could earn himself a permanent spot in Tedesco’s setup if he performs.

Michael Gregoritsch is the man tasked with providing the goals for the away side. He has scored in both of Austria’s Euro 2024 qualifiers thus far and has had a strong season in the Bundesliga, scoring 10 times for a Freiburg side that clinched Europa League football.

Euro 2024 Qualifier Betting Tips

Belgium to win and over 2.5 goals – 2.45

This bet has landed in each of Belgium’s first two games under Tedesco. Given Austria have failed to keep a clean sheet against Azerbaijan and Estonia, we think it’s unlikely they can keep a talented Belgium attack at bay.

Romelu Lukaku first goalscorer – 4.50

The big man’s form has improved massively toward the back end of the season and he remains a key asset for Belgium. His four goals in two games suggest Tedesco will be willing to build the team around him and he should benefit from plenty of chances as a result.
