Euro 2024 Qualifier: Azerbaijan vs Belgium Preview

The Euro 2024 qualifiers continue this week as Belgium travel to Azerbaijan’s capital Baku with hopes of closing the gap on group leaders Austria. We’ve previewed the upcoming fixture and taken a look at the latest football odds which might provide some betting value.

Euro 2024 Qualifier: Azerbaijan vs Belgium Preview

Domenico Tedesco’s tenure has started positively. Since the Red Devils appointed the former RB Leipzig coach, they have won three of their four matches, including a 3-2 win in an international friendly against Germany. Tedesco’s side are unbeaten in their qualifying group, beating Sweden and Estonia 3-0, whilst drawing 1-1 at home to group leaders Austria.

The squad has seen a complete overhaul, with many of the players we are used to seeing now missing out. Below is the full squad for the upcoming internationals:

Goalkeepers: Arnaud Bodart, Koen Casteels, Thomas Kaminski, Matz Sels

Defenders: Ameen Al-Dakhil, Timothy Castagne, Zeno Debast, Wout Faes, Hugo Siquet, Arthur Theate, Jan Vertonghen

Midfielders: Yannick Carrasco, Charles De Ketelaere, Olivier Deman, Jeremy Doku, Dodi Lukebakio, Orel Mangala, Amadou Onana, Youri Tielemans, Leandro Trossard

Attackers: Johan Bakayoko, Michy Batshuayi, Romelu Lukaku, Lois Openda

The average age of the squad has certainly come down! Although they are missing a couple of key players with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Thibaut Courtois, Tedesco will be confident this squad has enough to cruise to victory against bottom-of-the-group Azerbaijan. They have picked up just one point from their three games thus far, conceding 10 goals in the process.

Azerbaijan vs Belgium Betting Odds

Belgium head to Baku as huge 1.19 favourites, with the hosts Azerbaijan 13.00 underdogs, and a draw priced at 6.50. Over 2.5 goals in heavily backed at (1.57), with some nice value in over 3.5 (2.40) and over 4.5 goals (4.20). The Red Devils will be expected to navigate the tie with ease, and that is reflected in the 1.59 odds for either side to keep a clean sheet. By comparison, both teams to score is priced at 2.26.

He might have fallen out of favour at Chelsea, but Romelu Lukaku will be desperate to get some football under his belt following a late move to Roma. He is still Tedesco’s main man and Belgium’s all-time top scorer, and he is favourite to open the scoring this weekend at 3.35.

Euro 2024 Qualifier Betting Tips

Belgium win to nil – 1.80

We can’t see Azerbaijan causing Belgium’s backline any problems, and odds of 1.80 are decent for a Belgium win and a clean sheet.

Romelu Lukaku to score at any time and over 3.5 match goals – 2.28

Lukaku has already netted six times in three Euro 2024 qualifiers. He will feel like he has something to prove after the fallout at Chelsea, and there’s nothing more dangerous than a striker with something to prove!
