The PDC World Matchplay begins on Saturday evening as 32 of the best darts players in the world battle for the coveted Phil Taylor trophy.
Luke Humphries is the reigning champion and after winning the Premier League of Darts at the end of May, the Englishman will take some stopping this time around in Blackpool.
But his countryman Luke Littler is eyeing a first World Matchplay triumph, to go with the world title he won right at the start of the year.
Expect darting drama of the highest order and with that in mind, we take a quick look at the latest edition of the World Matchplay, providing you with the latest outright darts odds for your bet.
PDC World Matchplay Format
Unlike the PDC World Championship, which is played in sets, the World Matchplay is the best of a predetermined number of legs. Here is a quick breakdown:
First Round – Best of 19 legs
Second Round – Best of 21 legs
Quarter-Finals – Best of 31 legs
Semi-Finals – Best of 33 legs
Final – Best of 35 legs
PDC World Matchplay Preview
Defending champion Humphries is joined by plenty of past winners at this year’s tournament, including James Wade, Gary Anderson, Nathan Aspinall, Rob Cross and Peter Wright.
And, of course, there is three-time winner Michael van Gerwen, who last year eliminated Littler in the First Round.
But aside from Humphries and Littler, the two names on the lips of darts fans ahead of the Matchplay are Gerwyn Price and Josh Rock.
Price is having a wonderful year, reaching the semi-finals of the Premier League and winning the Baltic Sea Darts Open just last weekend, where he dominated Anderson in the final.
As for Rock, he reached the semi-finals of the 2025 UK Open – a tournament eventually won by Littler – and then delivered his finest TV displays yet to help guide Northern Ireland to glory at the World Cup of Darts.
Rock was virtually unstoppable alongside Daryl Gurney – and his ferocious 180 hitting makes him a real force to be reckoned with in Blackpool.
So, let’s take a look at who Littler, Humphries, Price and Rock will be taking on in the First Round, as well as the latest outright odds…
