The 2025-26 Copa del Rey final is nearly here – and what a match we have in store on Saturday evening.
For a change, neither Barcelona nor Real Madrid are part of this huge Spanish contest.
Instead, it is a clash between Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad, two of the country’s other massive football clubs.

It was a memorable midweek for Diego Simeone and his Atletico side, as they reached the Champions League semi-finals for the first time since 2017.

So confidence levels in the camp must be extremely high, and the players will be itching to go for this huge domestic final.
But Simeone must still be wary of his team’s recent performances. The 2-0 Champions League first-leg win over Barca was the only victory in the previous six, the other five fixtures ending in defeat – including last weekend’s 2-1 La Liga loss at Sevilla.
It is a run which will certainly pique the interest of Real Sociedad, who have won three of the last six – all of them on home soil.
However, the Basque outfit could only muster a 3-3 draw with Alaves on the weekend, and also suffered a 3-2 defeat at Atletico back in March.
But captain Mikel Oyarzabal and his men will relish the underdog tag here, and must still be buoyed by their 2-0 aggregate win over fierce rivals Athletic Bilbao in the semis.
It was far more tense for Atletico in the Copa del Rey final four, who lost 3-0 at Barcelona in the second leg after a 4-0 first-leg victory.
