Champions League: Matchday 2 Acca

Attention turns to the Champions League once again this week as Matchday 2 takes centre stage.

With 36 clubs battling it out in one gigantic league, each team has seven more games to play in the group stage.

And while the revamped format has yet to win over fans and pundits alike, there can be no denying that the opportunity to finish top of the pile appeals to the great and the good of European football.

Having said that, being one of the eight teams to qualify automatically for the knockout phase will be all that matters to most managers.

The sides finishing between ninth and 24th in the table will have to compete in a two-legged play-off to secure a place in the last 16, while those finishing 25th or lower will see their European campaigns come to an end.

Paris Saint-Germain to beat Arsenal – 4.60

After winning their opening group game, Paris Saint-Germain head to the Emirates full of confidence. The French champions needed a last-gasp Paulo Gazzaniga own goal to sink Girona but have yet to lose in Ligue 1 and will not be overawed by the prospect of facing Mikel Arteta’s men. Arsenal are also unbeaten this season but a goalless draw at Atalanta in their first Champions League outing was far from inspiring.

Celtic to beat Borussia Dortmund – 6.00

This one may raise a few eyebrows but you cannot overlook the fact that Celtic are flying. The Bhoys boast a perfect record in all competitions this term and will be full of confidence after battering Slovan Bratislava 5-1 in their opening Champions League game. Borussia Dortmund have home advantage in their favour but may still find they are unable to halt the Celtic juggernaut.

Manchester City to beat Slovan Bratislava – 1.04

A goalless draw at home to Inter Milan left Pep Guardiola’s men frustrated in their group stage opener and they will be out for revenge against Bratislava. After seeing their hosts demolished by Celtic, City are likely to go all guns blazing in Slovakia. Guardiola’s men are still feeling the loss of ACL victim Rodri but should have more than enough in the tank to pick up three points.

Bayer Leverkusen to beat AC Milan – 1.69

After going unbeaten last season, Bayer Leverkusen have had a relatively slow start by their own high standards. But a 4-0 win at Feyenoord saw Xabi Alonso’s men get off to a flying start in the Champions League and they will fancy their chances of making it two wins from two when AC Milan visit the BayArena. Milan are starting to find their feet in Serie A but are likely to still be reeling from a 3-1 humbling at the hands of Liverpool in their last European outing.

Juventus to beat RB Leipzig – 3.10

Juventus opened their Champions League campaign with a 3-1 home win over PSV Eindhoven and the fact they have yet to lose in Serie A suggests RB Leipzig will be in for a difficult 90 minutes on Wednesday. The hosts have made a positive start in the Bundesliga but lost their first group game at Atletico Madrid 2-1.
