Club Brugge take on Atletico Madrid in a fascinating two-legged tie for a spot in the proper 2025-26 Champions League knockout stage.

Club Brugge finished their Champions League campaign with a huge 3-0 home win over Marseille, securing a spot in the play-offs.
And Ivan Leko’s men also have recent experience of playing against a top Spanish side in this competition, having held Barcelona to a 3-3 draw in Bruges at the start of November.
Domestically, Club Brugge have bounced back well from a 1-0 loss to Union Saint-Gilloise, recording back-to-back wins over Standard Liege (3-0) and – most recently – local rivals Cercle Brugge (1-2).
The Belgian side enjoyed a far better weekend than Atletico, who slumped to a shock 3-0 La Liga defeat at Rayo Vallecano.
However, Simeone did heavily rotate his XI following a huge Copa del Rey semi-final first leg last Thursday evening, in which Atleti thrashed Barcelona 4-0 at the Wanda Metropolitano – with Julian Alvarez crucially back on the scoresheet.
It followed a 5-0 win at Real Betis in the quarter-finals of the same competition, though outside of the cup, Atleti have really struggled of late.
A 2-1 home defeat to Bodo/Glimt on Matchday 8 was a real eye opener, while a three-match winless run in La Liga following other failures against – ironically – Betis (0-1) and Levante (0-0) should give Club Brugge additional confidence.
