Carabao Cup: Tottenham vs Manchester City Preview, Odds & Betting Tips

Tottenham host Manchester City on Wednesday night knowing the pressure is beginning to grow on boss Ange Postecoglou.

A last-16 Carabao Cup tie against the Premier League champions is far from the easiest of assignments, even with home advantage in their favour.

But Spurs will be desperate to put last Sunday’s disappointing defeat at Crystal Palace behind them when City visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

And with a place in the quarter-finals at stake, Postecoglou’s men have the perfect opportunity to quell the growing unrest among sections of their fanbase with a much-needed win.

Ahead of what promises to be an electric affair in North London, you can find a wide selection of odds on offer at Bet777.

Our preview is packed with all the info needed to make an informed football bet — and do not forget a range of live betting markets will be available from kick-off.

Tottenham vs Manchester City Preview

Considering Palace had not won a league game prior to Tottenham’s visit, Postecoglou could not hide his disappointment after Jean-Philippe Mateta’s first-half strike sunk his side at Selhurst Park.

In response to a question about the fans being unhappy, the 59-year-old fumed: “I’m not happy. The players aren’t happy.

“It was one of those games with a lot of stoppages and battles and they ended up winning a lot of them and coming out on top.

“There was a lot of disruption and it was hard to get any fluency. They did better than us.

“I’d be very surprised if they [Spurs supporters] were happy right now. If I’m unhappy, they’ll be unhappy.”

While Spurs slipped to their fourth league defeat of the season, City maintained their unbeaten start with a 1-0 win over Southampton.

Goal machine Erling Haaland netted the winner at the Etihad and the defending champs ended the weekend at the top of the table after Liverpool left Arsenal with just a point.

But Tottenham may take heart from the fact Pep Guardiola is considering giving some of his young starlets game time on Wednesday.

The City boss, 53, said: “I don’t know if I’m going to think against Spurs maybe some players from the academy. We will see.

“If the players are fine they are going to play against Spurs. But if they have [injury] doubts, I’m not going to take a risk.”

In the first goalscorer market, Spurs star Heung-Min Son is 7.00 to break the deadlock. But at 10.00, team-mate Brennan Johnson may be the one to look at. The Welshman, 23, has scored six goals so far this season.

Assuming he is involved, it would be no surprise to see Haaland find the back of the net. The red-hot Norwegian, 24, has already bagged 14 goals in all competitions this term.
