Australian Open Preview

Men’s Tournament

All eyes are on Novak Djokovic in the men’s draw. The most decorated player in tennis history will be looking to put his name on an 11th Australian Open title and a 25th Grand Slam. The Serbian was back to his best last year, winning three of the four major tournaments. He also has an incredible record down under and has won four of the last five Australian Opens.

His closest competitor is expected to be Carlos Alcaraz. The 20-year-old picked up his second major at Wimbledon in 2023, beating Djokovic in an all-time classic. Many saw it as a passing of the torch, but it wasn’t to be. He bailed out of the US Open semi-finals later in the year, allowing Djokovic to go on and secure the trophy.

There will also be plenty of attention on 22-year-old Italian Jannik Sinner. Sinner made his mark on Grand Slam events at Wimbledon last year, but was beaten in straight sets in the semi-final by Djokovic. Sinner has never gone beyond the quarter-final in Australia but will undoubtedly feel like this is his year.

Women’s Tournament

Iga Swiatek is favoured to claim her fifth Grand Slam in the women’s draw. The Polish athlete is yet to taste success at the Australian Open, with three of her four victories coming in the French Open and the other at the US Open. However, she does have a 75% win ratio in this tournament and reached the semi-final in 2022. Could this be her year?

Reigning champion Aryna Sabalenka is next-best in the odds. She had an incredible 2023, claiming her first Grand Slam at the Australian Open, then going on to reach the final four at the French Open and Wimbledon, before finishing runner-up in the US Open.

Australian Open Betting Tips

Novak Djokovic to win the Australian Open – 2.10

Even at 2.10, Djokovic is impossible to ignore. He will no doubt have his eyes set on the Golden Slam as he looks to improve his claim as the greatest player ever. That all starts in Australia, where he has had more success than any player in the history of the sport.

Aryna Sabalenka to win the Australian Open – 6.00

Sabalenka was incredible last year and we’re backing her to continue that fine form into 2024. She has reached the semi-final in five consecutive Grand Slam events. Swiatek and Rybakina will be her biggest competition, but she is the only one with an Australian Open title to her name.
