The AFCON 2025 quarter-finals pit two of the continent’s biggest nations against each other, as Nigeria take on Algeria in a real glamour tie.
Three-time winners Nigeria are looking strong at this tournament, while Algeria – who claimed a second crown back in 2019 – are also unbeaten.

Nigeria cruised into the quarter-finals with a huge 4-0 win over Mozambique in the last 16.
Talismanic striker Victor Osimhen netted two of the goals, while in-form Ademola Lookman was on the scoresheet once again.
The Super Eagles look ready to add a fourth AFCON trophy to their collection, with confidence gained from group stage wins over Tanzania (2-1), Tunisia (3-2) and Uganda (1-3).
However, the Nigerians will be well aware of the threat posed by Algeria, despite Les Fennecs’ tense last-16 tie against DR Congo – which eventually finished 1-0.
Algeria had to wait until the 119th minute to book their spot in the quarters courtesy of a sensational goal from Adil Boulbina, one which will be replayed for many years to come.
Riyad Mahrez was unable to stamp his authority on that game, though the ex-Manchester City star is still a hugely influential figure, evidenced by three goals in the group stage.
It has been quite a long time since these two countries locked horns in a competitive setting. Nigeria beat Algeria 3-1 back in November 2016 when battling for World Cup qualification, before the Algerians got revenge with a 3-0 victory of their own in November 2017.

Yes, Algeria have conceded just once all tournament, but they are yet to come up against a forward with the quality and confidence currently possessed by Lookman.

This should be a pretty close game, which is made pretty clear by the price for a draw after 90 minutes. So we would not be shocked to see extra-time – and perhaps penalties – required to decide the winner.
