Jupiler Pro League Rankings – Matchday 34 Preview

It’s the final round of fixtures in the regular season campaign this weekend, with all still to play for in the top half of the Jupiler Pro League rankings. Failure to beat Oostende last time out sealed Seraing’s place in the relegation play-off, where they will face 1B Pro League winners Westerlo.

At the summit of Belgian football is Union St. Gilloise, who will remain top of the table going into the post-season despite a strong late challenge from champions Club Brugge. Places in the Championship Group and Conference League Group are still up for grabs this weekend, so keep an eye on the live betting odds as the games progress.

Eupen vs Oostende

Oostende’s draw with Seraing secured safety for both of these sides – there isn’t much to play for as they face off this weekend. The hosts have ended the season poorly, winning just one of their last 15, and a 5-0 defeat to Genk in their last game will not have done anything to help morale.  Oostende haven’t been much better either, picking up just three wins in that same time, but they look to have a slight edge going into this tie. Makhtar Gueye scored the 91st minute goal that ensured Oostende remain in the division, and he’ll be looking to end the campaign on a high.

Oostende @ 2.90

Antwerp vs Cercle Brugge

Cercle Brugge’s draw against Gent ended any hopes of making the Conference Group, bringing an end to their impressive late-season charge. They face a difficult trip to Antwerp to finish their campaign, with the hosts in pole position in the Jupiler Pro League rankings to claim one of the final two remaining spots in the Championship Group. Their 1-0 win over Leuven was far from convincing, but given what’s at stake in their last fixture, we expect them to be somewhere close to the best. A point will be enough to secure Antwerp a top four spot, and given the hosts haven’t lost at home against Cercle Brugge since 2015, we expect them to get over the line.

Antwerp @ 2.05

Club Brugge vs KV Mechelen

Mechelen have secured their Conference Group spot and can’t move any higher in the Jupiler Pro League rankings, but there’s no doubt they’ll be looking to put a dent in the champions’ title hopes. With front-runners St. Gilloise hosting already relegated Beerschot, Club Brugge simply cannot afford to drop points. The visitors are one of the few teams to beat Brugge this season, with Mechelen running away 2-1 winners in the reverse fixture. However, when the pressure is on, the champions usually find a way. With the Jan Breydel Stadion roaring them on, we expect the hosts to stay within touching distance of the league leaders.

Club Brugge @ 1.42

Charleroi vs Waregem

A point would mathematically confirm Charleroi’s place in the post-season, but they’ll be favourites to take all three against a Waregem side whose safety has already been confirmed. The visitors have lost seven of their last 12, and despite boasting a decent record in this fixture, their job is essentially already done. In contrast, Charleroi will be looking to build some momentum as they head into the Conference League play-offs looking to claim an unlikely spot in Europe next season.

Charleroi @ 1.60

Gent vs Leuven

Gent’s failure to win their penultimate game handed the initiative to Anderlecht and Antwerp in the race for the top four. The final game is now a must-win for the hosts, and even then, they are by no means guaranteed a spot in the Championship Group. They will welcome a Leuven team that secured safety early, and thus took their foot off the gas for their remaining games – they have lost four of their last six without winning. Given what’s at stake and the form of Gent’s Tarik Tissoudali, the hosts should have no problems claiming all three points.

Gent @ 1.31

Kortrijk vs Anderlecht

Anderlecht currently occupy fourth spot in the Jupiler Pro League rankings, with a point in their final game likely enough to confirm their Championship Group place thanks to superior goal difference. They have ended the season impressively, winning six of their last eight, and they will be heavy favourites to beat Kortrijk on the road and continue this momentum into the post-season. The hosts have lost nine of their last 10, and we can’t imagine they’ll be at their best this weekend given their comfortable position in the table.

Anderlecht @ 1.48

St. Truiden vs St. Liege

An eight-match undefeated run has left St. Truiden with an outside chance of snatching a place in the post-season from Belgian giants Genk. The two are tied on points in the Jupiler Pro League rankings, although Genk have a far better goal difference and face Seraing in their final fixture. St. Truiden will host St. Liege to put an end to what has been an awful season for the visitors – they are currently sat in 13th place, just three seasons after finishing third. The hosts will be favourites to hand Liege yet another defeat, but it may not be enough to secure their Conference Group spot.

St. Truiden win @ 1.90

Seraing vs Genk

An away win will secure Genk’s position in the top eight, and they should do so comfortably after impressing in a 5-0 win over Eupen last time out. It’s been a season to forget for last year’s runners-up, but they still have an outside chance of claiming a spot in Europe for next season. Paul Onuachu and Junya Ito have been the shining lights in a poor campaign, and Genk will need them to continue their fine form if they are to have a successful end to the season. Seraing are already resigned to a relegation play-off – it’s unlikely they’ll put up much of a fight this weekend.

Genk @ 1.43

Union St. GIlloise vs Beerschot VA

League leaders St. Gilloise will face the team rock bottom of the Jupiler Pro League rankings in their final outing of the regular campaign. Deniz Undav and Dante Vanzeir will be reunited as a strike partnership following the latter’s suspension, and the two will be pivotal in helping Union towards a first league title since 1935. Beerschot’s season could come to an unfortunate end with a heavy defeat at the hands of the league’s front-runners, but with the visitors coming off the back of seven straight defeats, it seems the only likely outcome.

Union St. Gilloise @ 1.20
