2026 World Cup Qualifiers: Wales vs Belgium Preview

Belgium continue their 2026 World Cup Qualifying campaign with an intriguing match against Wales later this evening.

Rudi Garcia’s side are still not assured of a place at next summer’s tournament, far from it in fact.

The Red Devils need to pick up a vital win in Wales to give their qualification quest a real boost, though it will be anything but easy in a hostile Cardiff atmosphere.

Wales vs Belgium Preview

Belgium will be very disappointed heading into this fixture after drawing 0-0 with current group leaders North Macedonia.

Last Friday’s fixture was a drab, dull affair, with the Red Devils clearly missing the brilliance of record scorer Romelu Lukaku.

Despite having 79% of the possession, Kevin De Bruyne and his colleagues were unable to breach the North Macedonian defence, and now their qualification hopes hang in the balance.

Belgium are just one point ahead of Wales, which means a victory for the hosts here would see them move ahead in the standings.

But the Welsh are even lower on confidence heading into this fixture after a demoralising 3-0 loss to England at Wembley.

It was an international friendly to forget for Craig Bellamy’s side, with a response needed to appease the passionate fans.

Wales’ last home match saw them lose 1-0 to Canada, though the Red Dragons did beat Liechtenstein 3-0 back in June.

That triumph came just before the Welsh travelled to Belgium, a match which served up plenty of entertainment as the Red Devils eventually claimed a 4-3 win.

De Bruyne scored the winner in the 88th minute, and Belgium need the Napoli star to be at the peak of his powers once again at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Belgium are the favourites for the win in this fixture at a price of 1.71. A victory for Wales is at odds of 4.30, while the draw is 3.56.

Wales vs Belgium Betting Tips

Player to score or assist – Kevin De Bruyne @ 1.73

The objective of breaking down a stubborn Welsh defence is one that De Bruyne will relish. Even in his older years, the playmaking wizard is still capable of conjuring up magic, and we fancy him to deliver for his country on a big night.

Total goals – Under 2.5 @ 1.94

Given the importance of this fixture, it could be a cagey affair in Cardiff. The Welsh have scored just one goal in their last three matches, and we would be shocked to see anything close to a repeat of the 4-3 scoreline in the reverse game.
