The famous Belgian Grand Prix takes place this weekend as Lewis Hamilton seeks to take one step closer to retaining his world title at Spa. He will face stiff competition from Max Verstappen and Red Bull, who have found themselves on the wrong end of some unfortunate crashes in the last two races, but they will be returning with a vengeance as they look to swing the season back in their favour.
We’ve analysed the form of each team and their drivers to come up with some betting tips to help you win some money on the racing this weekend.
Belgian Grand Prix – Team Mercedes Betting Tips
Lewis Hamilton win @ 2.00
At bet777, Hamilton and Verstappen are tied as favourites to win the race, but we think the Brit has the edge – and here’s why.
Despite having one less race win than his biggest rival this year, Hamilton has shown the more consistent form this season. Although crashes played major parts in the failure of Red Bull to podium in the last two outings, Hamilton has still found a way into the top three.
Not only is he in better current form, the Englishman also won four out of 11 Belgian Grand Prix’s in the last decade, including a dominant win last year at Spa where Verstappen could only do enough to finish in third.
Since Mercedes made improvements to their cars at Silverstone, Hamilton has had the fastest car. And when Hamilton has the fastest car, it’s almost impossible to stop him. When you also consider his superior experience on the track, we think he’ll have enough to get the job done.
Valtteri Bottas – Podium finish @ 3.25
If you are looking for a slightly higher odds pick, this could be the bet for you. The Finn currently sits fourth in the Drivers’ Championship standings, whilst Mercedes are at the summit of the Constructors. Hamilton’s teammate will face a five place grid penalty at Spa as a result of his role in the crash in Hungary, which saw Sergio Perez and Lando Norris forced to retire. However, we think he’ll find his way back into the race and has enough to rescue a podium finish.
Although Bottas is yet to win this season, he has made the top three in over 50% of the races, including podium finishes in three out of the last four. We find it unlikely that he’ll be able to catch Hamilton, but he certainly has every chance of stepping on to the podium for the seventh time in 12 races this campaign.
Race winning car – Team Mercedes @ 1.90
After tasting defeat five times in a row at the hands of Red Bull in a poor run of form stretching from Monaco to Austria, Mercedes finally hit back with improvements to their cars’ aerodynamic performance.
The improvements allowed Hamilton to finish first in successive qualifying campaigns and have put the Drivers and Constructors Championships back in the hands of its racing team. Verstappen will be ready for battle on Sunday, but we expect Mercedes to have made the alterations capable of winning them the race, as they look to secure their fifth win in the last seven Belgian Grand Prix’s.
