French Open 2023 – Carlos Alcaraz vs Novak Djokovic Preview
First up is a battle between the world number one Carlos Alcaraz and potentially the best tennis player of all time, Novak Djokovic. Both have had exceptional tournaments thus far, with Alcaraz set to head into the tie as favourite. The Spaniard has dropped just one set all tournament and confidently dispatched Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarter-final.
Djokovic lost his first set of the French Open 2023 in the last round, falling behind against 11th seed Karen Khachanov. However, the Serb fought back in a thrilling 7-6 second set, going on to win 3-1.
Many are eyeing this up as a passing of the torch, with Djokovic seemingly in his twilight years in comparison to the 20-year-old Alcaraz. The two have only met once in competition, a best-of-three semi-final in last year’s Madrid Open. Alcaraz emerged victorious in front of a home crowd, before going on to beat world number two (at the time) Alexander Zverev.
Alcaraz is currently bookie’s favourite to progress to the final at 1.47 and he is at 1.67 to win the French Open 2023.
French Open 2023 – Casper Ruud vs Alexander Zverev Preview
The other semi-finals sees world number four Casper Ruud take on Alexander Zverev. Ruud was beaten in last year’s French Open final by Rafael Nadal, and the Norwegian will be dreaming of lifting his first major title.
Zverev is also on the hunt for a first Grand Slam title. The German has been beaten at this stage in back-to-back French Opens. He has reached at least the quarter-finals in five of his last six Roland Garros appearances and will be hoping 2023 is his year.
The pair have met three times, all of which have been best of three sets. Zverev has won 2-0 on two occasions (both in 2021), while their most recent meeting saw Ruud win 2-1.
There isn’t much to pick between the two, with the bookies giving Zverev the slight edge at 1.85. The world number 27 is at 9.00 to go on and win the French Open 2023.
Semi-Final Betting Tips
Novak Djokovic to beat Carlos Alcaraz – 2.70
You very rarely see odds this long on Djokovic to win a single match. Although Carlos Alcaraz has been the more consistent player this year, Djokovic is still the best in the world, and maybe the best there ever has been on his day.
Djokovic and Ruud to win – 5.26
As well as Djokovic, we like the look of Casper Ruud. He was mightily impressive in the quarter-final, cruising past world number six Holger Rune with relative ease.
