2026 World Cup Qualifiers: Liechtenstein vs Belgium Preview

Belgium continue their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign with an away match against European minnows Liechtenstein.

It is a contest which Rudi Garcia’s Red Devils are expected to win with ease, and anything but victory by a wide margin would raise a few concerns among supporters.

Can the Belgian national side kick off the first international break of the season with a bang? We will find out on Thursday evening, but first here is a full sports betting online preview, complete with tips and odds for your midweek bets on football.

Liechtenstein vs Belgium Preview

This looks like mission impossible for Liechtenstein, who have unsurprisingly never got close to qualifying for a major international tournament.

Thursday’s hosts have lost all three matches in Group J thus far, conceding eight goals in the process and failing to score themselves.

As for Belgium, this is only their third qualifier after fulfilling Nations League commitments, which saw them beat Ukraine 4-3 on aggregate in a play-off tie.

The Red Devils drew 1-1 in their first qualifier away in North Macedonia, before beating Wales 4-3 at home in what was a drama-filled contest.

With those results in mind, the onus is on Garcia and his men to deliver an assured display against Liechtenstein, as well as taking the opportunity to boost their goal difference – which may prove decisive in a potentially tight group.

In the attacking department, Garcia is without Belgium’s top scorer Romelu Lukaku due to injury, though he can still call upon veteran playmaker Kevin De Bruyne, as well as Arsenal forward Leandro Trossard.

Belgium are such strong favourites to win this game that odds are not available for them in the Match Result market. Liechtenstein are priced at 19.00, while the draw is 14.00.

Liechtenstein vs Belgium Betting Tips

Lois Openda to score anytime @ 1.30

Fresh from a move to Juventus from RB Leipzig, Openda will be eyeing some goals on the international stage in Lukaku’s absence. The striker has only netted three times in 27 previous appearances for Belgium, but this represents a serious opportunity to boost those numbers.

Kevin De Bruyne to score anytime @ 1.44

It seems almost unfair for a player of De Bruyne’s quality to line up against Liechtenstein. But the Napoli midfielder won’t care one bit, and after scoring on his Serie A debut vs Sassuolo, De Bruyne should strut his stuff again in Belgium’s colours.

Total goals – Over 5.5 @ 2.40

Trying to find value in the markets for this match is very difficult indeed, given the gulf in quality between the two teams. But this selection has caught the eye. If Belgium score early against a team which lost 3-1 to San Marino less than a year ago, we could be in for a lot of goals.
