In-form Portugal continue their 2026 World Cup Qualifying campaign later this evening as they take on Hungary.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s side are still riding the crest of a wave following their victory in the Nations League final back in June.
Can Hungary dampen their spirits? We will soon find out, but here is a full sports betting online preview, complete with the latest odds and tips for your bets on football.
Hungary vs Portugal Preview
Portugal beat Spain in the aforementioned Nations League final, claiming a 5-3 victory in a penalty shootout after an action-packed 2-2 draw.
Roberto Martinez’s side then began their World Cup Qualifying campaign in typically dominant fashion, thrashing Armenia 5-0 away from home last Saturday.
Al-Nassr stars Ronaldo and Joao Felix both bagged braces, while Al-Hilal full-back Joao Cancelo was also on the scoresheet.
Portugal are expected to top Group F with a degree of comfort, though Hungary can represent a fairly tough challenge on their day.
However, the Hungarians surrendered a 2-0 lead against the Republic of Ireland in the previous match, eventually drawing 2-2 and seeing key forward Roland Sallai sent off in the 52nd minute.
Sallai’s suspension for this fixture is a huge blow, and it will place more pressure on the shoulders of talisman and skipper Dominik Szoboszlai.
Hungary have won just one of their previous seven matches, which was a 2-1 triumph over minnows Azerbaijan.
Such a poor run of form is far from ideal preparation for the task of facing a European powerhouse in Portugal.
Hungary vs Portugal Odds

Hungary vs Portugal Betting Tips
Anytime goalscorer – Cristiano Ronaldo @ 1.68
At the age of 40, Ronaldo is still Portugal’s biggest goal threat – and his longevity really is quite extraordinary. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has scored 10 goals in his last 10 appearances for his country, hence why his odds here are so short. But even so, this selection focused on Portugal’s captain still looks like a banker to us.
Player to score or assist – Joao Felix @ 1.80
Felix appears to have found a new lease of life since joining Al-Nassr from Chelsea. The versatile forward scored a hat-trick on his Saudi Pro League debut and followed that up with a double against Armenia. Working in tandem with Ronaldo, Felix is beginning to show signs of the player we all thought he would become in his early days at Benfica.
Dominik Szoboszlai to have over 0.5 shots on target @ 1.73
With Sallai unable to play due to the red card he picked up in Ireland, Szoboszlai may take on even more of a leading role in attack. The Liverpool star is certainly not afraid to take a shot at goal, evidenced by his stunning free-kick in the 1-0 win over Arsenal before the international break. Szoboszlai has also scored in three of his last eight appearances for Hungary.
